Yost to Open Art Gallery In Alessandro’s Restaurant Friday

Entrepreneur Roger Yost is adding art – and lots of it – to the menu of his Alessandro’s 120 Ristorante and Lounge.

(SALEM) - “The New Galleries at Alessandro’s” are scheduled to open Friday, December 1st within the 12,000 square foot restaurant, Alessandro’s 120 Ristorante.

The galleries will initially feature the original oils and limited edition “giclee” prints of 12 internationally acclaimed artists – Andrew Atroshenko, Mikhail and Inessa Garmash, Avtandil Makharoblidze, S. Sam Park, Tim Rogerson, Viktor Shvaiko, Sophie Sirot, Denard Stallings, Thomas Stiltz, Svetlana Valueva, and Vladimir Volegov.

A New Paradigm for Lunar Orbits

It's 2015. You're NASA's chief engineer designing a moonbase for Shackleton Crater at the Moon's south pole. You're also designing a com-system that will allow astronauts constant radio contact with Earth.

(NASA) - But you know that direct transmissions won't work--not always. As seen from Shackleton Crater, Earth is below the horizon for two to three weeks each month (depending on the base's location). This blocks all radio signals, which travel line of sight.

The solution seems obvious. Simply place a satellite in a high, circular orbit going almost over the Moon's poles. Better yet, place three satellites into the same orbit 120 degrees apart. Two would always be above the lunar horizon to relay messages to and from Earth.

Rain, Snow, Frigid Temperatures Taking a Toll on Salem-Area Homeless, Resources

Area homeless shelters are in desperate need of blankets, coats, socks, and food supplies.

(SALEM) - The recent rain, snow and fridged temperatures that have hit the Salem-area over the last few weeks, has taken a toll on area homeless and those who are trying to help them find a better life.

Officials at the Union Gospel Mission’s men’s shelter, located at 345 Commercial St. NE in downtown Salem, say they have been seeing a steady increase in the number of homeless men seeking shelter from the cold, wet weather.

That is the same for the women’s shelter at 5119 River Road N. in Keizer.

The History of The Dory Cove Retaurant at Roads End

The historic Dory Cove Restaurant in Lincoln City was destoryed by fire Wednesday night.

(LINCOLN CITY) - In 1971, I decided to retire from the Air Force at the end of June the following year.

I had a total of twenty two years in the Military Service and the rank of Master Sergeant. Prior to retiring I supervised the hospital dining hall at Beale Air Force Base in California.

During that time I was approached by Dr. Neal a high ranking officer in the hospital. He asked me where I planned to live when I retired. I told him I had purchased a home and had a job to go to when I retired. He told me he was aware of me being from Oregon and wondered if I might like to operate a restaurant on the Oregon Coast in the Roads End area of Lincoln City.

Historic Oregon Coast Restaurant Destroyed by Fire

The Dory Cove opened for business on July 1st, 1973 in Lincoln City.

(LINCOLN CITY) - An overnight fire has destroyed a historic Lincoln City restaurant.

Fire officials said they were called to the Dory Cove Restaurant, 5819 Logan Road just before 10:00 PM.

The fire re-ignited twice, and Thursday morning, crews were still on scene dowsing hotspots, and investigating the cause.

Oregon State Police Trooper Struck, Injured by Commercial Truck

Highway conditions of spots of ice were reported for that area at the time of the accident.

(PENDLETON) - An Oregon State Police trooper's condition is improving after he was injured Wednesday afternoon when he and his patrol car were struck by a commercial truck on eastbound Interstate 84 about ten miles east of Pendleton.

30-year-old Trooper Timothy Zinn remains at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, Washington, and information this morning indicates he expected to make a full recovery.

At approximately 1:15 PM, OSP Trooper Zinn arrived on scene of a spun out pickup towing a trailer eastbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 220.
