Parents Invited to Internet Safety Workshops Tuesday

One of the classes will be held for spanish speaking parents only.

(SALEM) - The Salem-Keizer School District is holding two Internet Safety Workshops on Tuesday to help parents protect their children from internet crimes.

Presenters include representatives from the following organizations: Salem & Keizer Police Departments, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Salem-Keizer School District and the Oregon Department of Justice Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Police Locate Two Lost Hikers; One Goes to Jail, The Other Goes Home

OSP Senior Trooper Brown, Trooper Turnbo and Recruit Young responded to the park where they met a Marion County deputy who had found the missing hiker's car in the North Falls parking lot.

(SILVER FALLS ) - Two lost hikers were found cold and wet Sunday night by Oregon State Police troopers and a Marion County sheriff's deputy after they got lost in the Silver Falls State Park area.

One hiker got to go home but the other went to jail after it was determined he was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

STORM WATCH: 9,000 Still in The Dark After Last Night`s Wind Storm

At the height of the storm last night at 11:30 PM, about 65,000 PGE customers were without power.

(PORTLAND) - Steadily working across the PGE service territory, line crews have reduced the number of customers without power to about 9,000.

The remaining outages mostly involve complicated work, such as broken poles, or are in more remote, heavily forested areas.

As a result, PGE says customers should expect many more hours of work before most are reconnected.

STORM WATCH: Highway 18 CLOSED Between Otis Junction And Grande Ronde

ODOT recommends that motorists use Oregon 22 between Valley Junction and Hebo as an alternative.

(LINCOLN CITY) - The Oregon Department of Transportation has closed Oregon 18 from U.S. 101 at Otis Junction to milepost 21, just east of Grand Ronde, after high winds downed more than 100 trees across the highway.

The fallen trees are spread over a 21-mile area of Highway 18. The trees fell late Sunday and early Monday morning due to high winds and rain-saturated soil.

Smell of Gas Evacuates Recovery Home

Lingering vapors kept residents away from home overnight

(SALEM) - During the heavy wind and rain of Sunday night, 6 women, 6 children and 4 visitors were evacuated from the Waterside Oxford Recovery Home at 2103 Broadway Street NE.

Salem Fire Department responded to the call of a gasoline smell at 6:55 PM, bringing 3 fire engines, a ladder truck, a Battalion Chief and two medic units.

Chains Required In Oregon`s Santiam Pass

Winter driving conditions in all mountain passes expected

(BEND) - Oregon State Police troopers out of the Bend area are advising that conditions are slick on Highway 20 / Santiam Pass. There have been multiple vehicles not prepared for winter driving conditions.

It is currently posted in that area as "Chains Required - Traction Tires Allowed on Vehicles under 10,000 Pounds Gross Vehicle Weight" - this means that you must use chains if your vehicle is towing, being towed or weighs over 10,000 pounds. If your vehicle weights less than 10,000 pounds and is not towing or being towed you must use chains or traction tires. Drivers in violation may face a citation for $145.00.

(SALEM) - The National Weather Service has issued a high wind watch for Marion, Polk, Linn, Yamhill and Clackamas county through midnight tonight.

A deepening low pressure area will move toward the north Oregon Coast this afternoon then move across Washington tonight.

South winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 60 mph are possible tonight.

Oregon Leads America in Recognition of War Heroes

The Afghan-Iraqi Freedom Memorial is the first in the entire country to remember fallen heroes of today's conflicts.

(SALEM) - In an incredible stroke of good fortune, the sun broke free this afternoon and held its place throughout the dedication of the Afghan-Iraq Freedom Memorial.

The crowd gathered early, and amassed to about 400 by 2:00, when the ceremony began.

(SALEM) - The Afghan-Iraqi War Memorial on Summer Street will be dedicated today, appropriately, on Veteran’s Day.

The Memorial is the result of the efforts of Clay and MJ Kesterson whose son Erik Kesterson, an Army Blackhawk helicopter pilot, was shot down and killed while fighting in Iraq in 2003, and dozens of others who understand the deep meaning behind this tribute.
