Dallas Children’s Halloween Parade Set

The event is a safe and fun way for kids to trick-or-treat.

(DALLAS) - The Dallas Children’s Halloween Parade & Trick-or-Treat is Tuesday, October 31st.

Participating Dallas businesses welcome young monsters, maidens, witches and all other costumed characters to trick-or-treat while they parade around the Polk County Courthouse Lawn.

Last year over 200 kids, parents, and even a few dogs participated in the event.

Corvallis Library, Senior Center Offering Halloween Events

Events offer kids, parents, and seniors a frighteningly good time.

(CORVALLIS) - Children ages two through ten and their adult companions are invited to dress in their costumes and join the fun at the Corvallis-Benton County Library’s annual Halloween Party on October 31st from 4:00 to 6:00 PM in the Library’s parking garage, 645 NW Monroe.

Children will play games, enjoy Halloween songs, eat healthy snacks and win trinkets.

George Fox University President David Brandt Announces Retirement

Brandt to retire in June after nine years at Oregon’s third largest private university.

(NEWBERG) - David Brandt, the 11th president of George Fox University, will retire June 30th after a four-decade career in Christian higher education. He announced his decision to the George Fox Board of Trustees at its annual fall meeting held Oct. 20th-22nd.

Now in his ninth year at George Fox, Brandt has guided the university in the expansion of programs, facilities and locations. During his tenure, the university has grown from 2,345 students to 3,185. \

Oregon National Guard Soldiers to Return From Japan this Weekend

Oregon Guardsmen returning from Japan this weekend "stood up" the first sniper training in Japan since WWII.

(SEKIYAMA MANEUVER AREA, Japan) - "You go away. No come in town," 1st Sgt. Robert Hanks said to members of his own Oregon National Guard unit. "We no trust you. Go away."

Those words were the only ones the Soldiers of Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 162nd Infantry could understand when they came upon a mock village during a patrol in the jungles of Japan's Sekiyama Maneuver Area Monday.

Hanks and members of the battalion's mortar section were role-playing rural villagers and, except for a few choice words, were not speaking in English. The hostile attitude, however, was easily understood by the Oregon Soldiers.

Federal Standards Place 15 Schools on Watch List, Designating Parrish Middle School in Salem Persistently Dangerous

McNary, McKay, South Salem, and North Salem placed on state’s watch list.

(SALEM) - State Schools Superintendent Susan Castillo announced Monday that fifteen Oregon public schools have been placed on a “watch list,” under the school safety provisions of the federal No Child Left Behind Act. One school, Parrish Middle School in Salem, was designated as a “persistently dangerous school” for making the list for three consecutive years.

“Oregon schools are safe because our educators are working hard to prevent violent behavior,” Castillo said.

Corvallis Hopes New Markings Helps Bikes And Vehicles Share The Road

Deputies: Speeding Drivers Make Roads Unsafe

According to statistics for 2005, 161 speed-related traffic crash fatalities occurred in Oregon and more than 13,000 across the nation.

(SALEM) - Speeding cars kept law enforcement officers busy in recent days. One incident involved car racing, a car chase and a wipe out by a fleeing car, another they say was blasting along at close to 100 mph with a baby on a passenger’s lap.

Just before midnight on Friday, two Beaverton male teens were arrested on driving related charges. He says the young men were preparing to speed race on Arbor Grove Rd NE in north Marion County when a Deputy arrived.

Both teens fled the scene when the deputy attempted to pull them over. A pursuit ensued.

Senate Candidate Paul Evans Ships Out to Middle East Before Election Day

Evans, a Democrat, is likely to be the only U.S. candidate running for office who will be on active duty in the Middle East on election day.

(MONMOUTH) - Senate Candidate Paul Evans is already engaged in a heated election battle, and now he is preparing to ship off to war.

Evans will be deployed November 5th, two days before he will know whether or not he gets elected to the Oregon Legislature. The deployment was originally scheduled for November 15th.

Department of Justice Gives Mid-Valley Police Agencies Funding to Purchase New Bulletproof Vests

Overall, the DOJ granted Oregon public safety agencies $389,647.03 which will purchase 2,524 new vests

(SALEM) - The Department of Justice has announced nearly $29 million in funding to over 4,500 law enforcement agencies across the nation for the purchase of bulletproof vests through the Department of Justice's Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program.

"Law enforcement is a difficult and dangerous profession. The safety and well-being of our public safety officers is fundamental to effectively administering justice in the communities they serve," said Regina Schofield, Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Justice Programs.

I believe that a good percentage of things described as paranormal activity can indeed be explained via scientific means. But even if the percentage that can't be explained is only five or ten percent, that is still a large number and that has my attention."

(INDEPENDENCE) - During my time on this earth as a reporter I've frequently diverted from the mainstream crowd to pursue subjects that were more on the edge. One example would be the hundreds of hours I have spent accompanying ghosthunters to haunted locations.

I have had a few hair raising experiences over the years, but I stick closely to my role as the observer and I have no particular sensitivity to the paranormal. Unfortunately, I think I am too anxious and interested and that does not help. A friend on an investigation once asked, "What will you do if one really shows for us tonight?"
