Dog With History of Attacks Kills Neighbor Dog

Keizer Police say the 5-year old Pekingese involved in the attack has died. The exact cause, however, is unknown according to the family, and a Necropsy will be scheduled to determine cause.

(KEIZER) - A Keizer woman called Police Friday evening at 7:41 PM to Department report that her neighbor’s dog had just attacked her and her dog. A Keizer police officer responded within minutes and arrived at 5322 Jeffrey Court North within a few minutes.
The victim, Karen Wright-Bayless, told officers that her dog, a 5-year old female Pekingese, was attacked by her neighbors Akita.

Salem-Keizer Transit District Asking Voters to Approve Funding Levy

The Oregon Secretary of State sent out more than two million ballots on Friday.

(SALEM) - The ballot measure is a five-year special option tax, in the amount of 60 cents per thousand dollars of assessed valuation, that would provide funds to the Salem-Keizer Transit District beginning November 2007 to maintain the current transit services in the urban area, restore some of the services from the September 2006 reductions, and add new services as specified in the District's Strategic Plan.

Marion County Agencies Participate in Nationwide Domestic Violence Offender Sweep

The goal of this event is to send messages to offenders that they will be held to account and to victims of domestic violence that there is hope and that others do care.

(SALEM) - Twenty-eight representatives from area law enforcement agencies participated in the nationwide domestic violence sweeps this week. The team arrested 18 people over a 7-hour period on outstanding arrest warrants for domestic violence related crimes. Four of those people were also arrested on new charges including Possession of a Controlled Substance and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Agencies participating included the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Parole and Probation and Patrol Divisions, Salem Police Department, Keizer Police Department and the Marion County District Attorney’s Office.

Oregon National Guard Breaks Ground for New Facility in Salem

Congresswoman Darlene Hooley is credited with securing just over $6.5 million in federal funds for the project, which the Oregon National Guard has had on the drawing board since 1990.

(SALEM) - The Oregon National Guard held a ground breaking ceremony at their Army Aviation Facility at McNary Field in Salem today, for a new facility to house two of their units.

The new 39,000 square foot facility will be the new home of two Oregon Army National Guard units.

(SALEM) - False reports and associated comments about CNN on the Michael Savage show Friday are possibly the most blatant example of what media "truth killers" across our nation have accomplished.

The hate jock told listeners that a CNN crew recorded a U.S. Marine being shot by an insurgent sniper, and that the crew was "with the insurgents." In reality, Savage knew all along that an enemy camera operator shot the clip and the footage was provided to CNN, they didn't shoot it.

Corban Sweeps Top Journalism Awards at Competition

(SALEM) - Corban students took top awards at this year’s Baptist Press Collegiate Journalism Conference in Nashville, Tenn.

Corban’s Hilltop Yearbook took first place in the overall yearbook category, besting second-place-finisher University of Mary-Hardin Baylor and third-place-finisher Liberty University.

Corban’s yearbook’s editor was Michelle Zarfas, a junior and education major.

Governor Fights For Oregon Steel Jobs at The U.S. Trade Commission

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski on Friday urged the U.S. International Trade Commission to consider Oregon Steels Mills’ importance to the state’s economy as the commission reviews its rules relating to imports of plate steel from other countries.

“… [T]he company today provides 1,900 jobs to our residents, and is an important contributor to our state and local economies,” the Governor told the ITC in written testimony. “Oregon Steel Mills is only one of two U.S. producers of armor plate. This product made to retrofit armor kits for Humvees and military police vehicles, as well as other products used to protect our nation’s servicemen and service women.”

FBI Offering Reward in Salem Sikh Temple Flag Burning

(SALEM) - The FBI is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in what investigators are calling a hate crime.

Someone set fire to the Sikh flag known as The Khanda, which is the emblem of the Sikh faith and belief at the Dasmesh Darbar Sikh Temple, 860 Oakhill Avenue SE in south Salem around 6:30 AM July 27th.

The suspect(s) also ripped out flowers, a tree caught fire, the temple was damaged, and a bike was thrown onto the opposite side of the property.
