Governor Unveils Plan to Provide Affordable Health Coverage For All Kids

Working families will receive children’s coverage under Governor’s Healthy Kids Plan.

(SALEM) - Oregon Kulongoski unveiled Monday the details of his plan to provide health care coverage for all 117,000 uninsured children in Oregon, while expanding school-based health care and on-site dental programs at schools throughout the state.

"My Healthy Kids Plan ensures that all children receive health care, including dental and mental health benefits, and that all working families can provide health care for their children," the Governor said.

Four Injured in Multiple Car Crash Near Mt. Angel

Two victims were taken to Salem Hospital with minor injuries. Another was taken to a Portland Hospital Burn Center with severe burns to his face and hands.

Gunshot Victim Discovered Near Wildlife Refuge in Eastern Oregon

Investigators are attempting to determine if a shooting incident Friday in Hermiston, is related to the homicide investigation.

(HERMISTON) - A homicide investigation is continuing at the McNary Wildlife Refuge following the discovery Saturday morning of a deceased male, 32-year old Ruperto Zuniga Torres of Pasco, Washington.

Mr.Torres' body was discovered Saturday just after 5:00 AM by a hunter who pulled into the gated entrance of the Wildlife Refuge along Highway 730 near milepost 198 in Umatilla County.

McMinnville Man Charged with Eluding Police in Van Duzer Corridor

(McMINNVILLE) - A McMinnville man was arrested early Monday morning after a police pursuit, charged with Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants and driving 109 mile per hour in a Safety Corridor.

30-year old Jose Avila Del Rayo of McMinnville, was also charged with Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, and Reckless Driving.

Be Aware! Material From Blasting Project Closes Highway 20

One lane was expected to be cleared by 5:30 PM Monday.

(EDDYVILLE) - The Oregon Department of Transportation has closed Highway 20 at mile post 23, about two mile east of Eddyville, after material from a rock-blasting project inadvertently landed on the highway.

The incident occurred at about 4 PM Monday at the east end of the U.S. 20 Pioneer Mountain-Eddyville highway improvement project. No injuries have been reported.

Police Release Composite Drawing of Attempted Rape Suspect

UPDATE- Several news organizations have described the suspect in this case as being 5'10" tall. Police say the suspect is described as 5'05"-5'8" tall. They also want to be clear about the possibility that he suffered some scratches during the struggle with the victim. He may have fresh scratches, either from the berry bushes or from the victim.

(SALEM) - The 14 year old victim of an attempted rape worked with investigators today to develop a composite drawing of the attacker.

The crime occurred Sunday night just before 9:00 PM on Portland Rd near Beach St N.E.

Police investigators say the victim had an argument with her mother and left home to walk to her friend's house.

Wyden, Dorgan Raise Security Concerns at Army Explosives Plant

Whistleblowers Allege Negligence, Deception by Security Contractor.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - After learning of disturbing allegations of lax security at the Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Kingsport, Tennessee, U.S. Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Byron Dorgan (D-ND) are calling for an immediate investigation into the practices of Wackenhut Corporation, the private contractor responsible for security at the facility.

The Holston plant produces explosives used in U.S. weapons systems, including the Sidewinder, Hellfire, Tomahawk and Javelin missiles.

Investigation Underway in 2-Month-Old Boy`s Death

The state medical examiner will conduct an autopsy this week.

(WOODBURN) - Police in Woodburn are investigating the death of a 2-month-old Woodburn boy.

Police and fire were called to the boy’s home by his 16-year-old mother just before 10:00 AM.

The mother told 911 dispatchers that her son was laying in her bed, not breathing.

She told police that she had laid him down for a nap, and when she returned two hours later noticed he wasn’t breathing.

Police Release The Name of Man Hit And Killed Sunday in Woodburn

An Oregon State Police dispatcher on her way home from work found the man lying in the road.

(WOODBURN) - Woodburn police are asking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle that was involved in a deadly hit and run accident early Sunday morning in Woodburn.

Police believe the incident occurred somewhere between 2:15 AM and 2:30 AM on Highway 99E at James Street.

52-year-old Pedro Chilar from Woodburn was killed in the incident.

Pedestrians Save 14-Year-Old Salem Girl From Attempted Rape

The girl was taken to Salem Hospital for treatment of sore ribs.

(SALEM) - Pedestrians are being credited for breaking-up an alleged attempted rape of a 14-year-old Salem girl Sunday night.

Salem police say the girl was walking along Portland Road under the railroad overpass just before 9:00 PM when a man grabbed her.

Police say the man dragged the girl to an area near Beach Avenue NE, pinned her, and removed some of her clothing.

The man ran when two pedestrians approached the area.

The suspect is described as Hispanic, 25 to 30 years of age, 5’10, 170 pounds, with a mustache and short hair. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a blue shirt.
