Oregon Air National Guard Deploys 21 Airmen to Afghanistan

(SALEM) - The Oregon Air National Guard's 116th Air Control Squadron will deploy 21 Airmen to Afghanistan Sept. 9th. The unit, based out of Camp Rilea near Warrenton, will make final preparations on Sept. 8th. for a 120 day tour of duty at Kandahar Air Base.

Police Bomb Squad Disrupts Suspicious Device in East Salem

After the recent discovery of four bombs in the span of a single day, Salem residents are in a serious mode and following police directions.

(SALEM) - A Salem man called police today after spotting a suspicious object in some brush on his property.

John Forgard, who lives at 3035 Hollywood Dr NE in Salem said he called police to say he believed it may be a homemade explosive device.

The police responded around 1:30 PM this afternoon, and soon the bomb squad was enroute.

Suspicious Death Turns to Murder Investigation

Police have released the cause of death but not the name of the Portland man.

(SALEM) - Salem Police are releasing more information about a man who was found dead in car Wednesday in the parking lot of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, located at 570 Madison St N.E.

Salem Police Lt. Bill Kohlmeyer says an autopsy performed today in Portland at the State Medical Examiners Office reveals that the man died of a gunshot wound to the head.

The case is now being investigated as a murder.

17-Year Old Girl Falls From Moving Van

Injuries the girl received in the 45-mph fall are not considered life-threatening.

(CORVALLIS) - A 17-year old girl on her way to the Children's Farm Home in Corvallis fell out of a moving vehicle Wednesday. Police say the fall and related injuries resulted from a struggle between the girl and an employee of the Children's Farm Home.

State Police are investigating the Wednesday afternoon incident that happened on Highway 34 east of Corvallis. At the time of the incident, the girl was being transported back to a Corvallis-area residential treatment facility.

Suspicious Death Investigation in Church Parking Lot

Police are hoping to hear from anyone who may have information.

(SALEM) - A report of blood on the ground outside a parked car led Salem Police officers to the parking lot of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints today, where they located the victim of an apparent homicide.

Police were called to the scene around 12:45 PM, the church is located at 570 Madison St N.E.

The initial report indicated that there was blood on the ground outside the car. The victim was inside the car according to Salem Police Lt. Bill Kohlmeyer, clearing earlier reports that the body was in the church.

Salem Sailor Will Face Espionage and Desertion Charges in Upcoming Court-Martial

(NORFOLK, Va.) - The arraignment for a Salem, Oregon Navy sailor accused of stealing a government laptop computer full of classified information and selling the contents to a foreign government was set for Wednesday, according to sources with the U.S. Navy.

The foreign nation that Petty Officer 3rd Class Ariel J. Weinmann is accused of selling the documents to has not yet been disclosed.

Annual Emergency Services Expo Saturday in Jefferson

This year's event is full of activities and displays for all ages with over 50 presenters and displays.

(JEFFERSON) - The 12th Annual Emergency Services Expo will be held on Saturday, from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM at the Jefferson High School grounds behind the stadium.

Activities include junior firefighter games, residential fire sprinkler demonstrations, "Safe Kids" games, fire safety house, as well as displays by the Forest Fire Lookout Association, Marion County Emergency Management, Fraud Awareness, and car seat safety.

Attendees can pose for a picture with Smokey Bear, Fire Pup as well as the Crash Dummies, Vince and Larry.
