Wyden Blocks Legislation to Overturn Oregon’s Physician Aid in Dying Law

Brownback bill may surface in waning days of session.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - U.S. Senator Ron Wyden today took swift action to prevent the U.S. Senate from considering legislation that squarely takes aim at Oregon’s physician aid in dying law and the will of the state’s voters.

“We are just two months from Election Day in which local, state, and federal elections will be held. Many states will have numerous ballot initiatives covering every issue imaginable. Voters need to know they can debate even the most emotional wrenching issues through the ballot process and have their election results respected,” Wyden said.

Short Police Pursuit Lands Richland, Washington Woman in Jail

(KEIZER) - On Sunday, an officer from the Keizer Police Department attempted to stop a blue 1990 Chevrolet Astro van for a traffic violation.

When the officer initiated the traffic stop using his emergency lights and siren, the driver of the van continued to drive and would not stop.

The driver of the van led the police on a 2.5 mile vehicle pursuit, which involved officers from the Keizer Police and the Salem Police Departments.

The vehicle finally stopped in the 3800 block of Hawthorne Avenue in Salem, where the passenger of the vehicle fled on foot.

(SALEM) - Salem-News.com’s Tim King will travel to Afghanistan in October to be embedded with the 41st Combat Brigade of the Oregon National Guard.

The tempo in Afghanistan has increased in recent days with the death of an Oregon National Guard sergeant, and the deaths of several Canadian soldiers in clashes that left over 100 Taliban dead.

Boy Arrested for Threatening People With a Knife

(KEIZER) - Police arrested a 15-year Keizer boy Sunday evening after three people reported that a juvenile had threatened them with a knife in front of Keizer’s Taco Bell restaurant on River Road Northeast.

Officers from the Keizer Police Department responded to a reported menacing in progress near Taco Bell at about 9:20 PM. The person who called police, a juvenile male, reported that an unknown subject pulled a knife on he and two friends while they walked down the sidewalk.

The victims identified Brandon Miller to police as the suspect who threatened them with a knife and he was seen running from the scene.

Six-Car Crash Sends Four People to Local Hospitals

(JEFFERSON) - Jefferson Firefighters were called to a six-car motor vehicle crash that sent four patients to local hospitals Monday afternoon at approximately 2:15 PM.

The accident occurred on Northbound I-5 near Milepost 243 which is near the Ankeny Hill exit. A Toyota pick-up that was hauling a sand rail jackknifed, causing a chain reaction of accidents.

The right lane of NB I-5 was closed for approximately 30-minutes which tied up Labor Day traffic for hours. One of the four patients had to be extricated.

Telephone Bill Guide And Other PUC Program Brochures Now Available in Spanish

(SALEM) - The Oregon Public Utility Commission has updated and translated into Spanish a popular, free brochure entitled “Navigating Your Phone Bill.”

“We recognize that a growing number of residents in Oregon speak Spanish as their primary language. We hope this brochure will assist them with questions they may have about the various fees and charges on their phone bills,” said Commission Chairman Lee Beyer.

The Commission initially created the brochure in English after mounting complaints and questions about certain phone bills charges and codes.

Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash Near Sisters

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

(SISTERS) - A North Plains-area man died Monday afternoon when he lost control of his motorcycle on Highway 20-W about twenty-five miles west of Sisters.
