Multiple Stabbing in Sheridan

(SHERIDAN) - Deputies in Yamhill County responded to a report of a stabbing early Saturday morning at the Green Frog Restaurant and Lounge in Sheridan, Oregon and found two victims stabbed as a result of an argument.

They say John Hillebrand was taken by Life Flight to OHSU where he underwent emergency surgery for wounds sustained in the assault.

James B. Kinslow, the other man involved, was taken to the Willamette Valley Medical center where he was treated and released for minor stab wounds also sustained in the assault.

Yamhill County Sheriff Jack Crabtree says deputies immediately located 37-year old Brian Martin Weant at the scene. He was arrested and later booked into the Yamhill County Jail on one count of Assault I, a measure 11 crime, he is lodged in lieu of $150,000 bail.

Willamette’s Class of 2010 Shows Increased Academic Strength

The class includes 11 student body presidents, 175 varsity letter recipients, 175 instrumental musicians, 190 community service standouts, and 35 school newspaper, magazine or yearbook editors.

(SALEM) - Willamette University’s new class of first-year students boasts a strong academic profile that includes the highest median SAT score in the school’s history and a median GPA that is almost one point higher than last fall.

The 481 College of Liberal Arts first-year students have a median SAT score of 1260, and the median GPA is 3.84. The new class includes 37 valedictorians, and almost 50 percent of the students were in the top 10 percent of their high school classes.

At the same time, Willamette’s Class of 2010 is ethnically, geographically and socioeconomically diverse, said Susan Rauch, interim vice president for enrollment.

Still Time to Register For Linn County Sheriff’s Citizen’s Academy

The Academy is free of charge and open to any Linn County resident.

(ALBANY) - Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller says the 18th class of the Linn County Sheriff’s Office Citizen’s Academy will begin on Tuesday September 12th and will conclude November 21st.

Governor Renews Successful Meth Task Force

We’re making progress protecting communities, Kulongoski said.

(SALEM) - Governor Kulongoski has announced the renewal of his Meth Task Force and pledged to build on the state’s success in fighting the deadly drug.

"We’re making progress against meth by restricting supply, cutting demand and giving communities the tools they need to fight this epidemic at the neighborhood level," the Governor said. " I’m renewing the Meth Task Force so that that we can work together and build on our success. There’s still more to be done."

Last year, the Governor worked with a bi-partisan coalition of legislators to pass the nation’s toughest meth law, resulting in a 77-percent reduction in the number of the meth labs in Oregon.

Contest Underway to Name The Yamhill County Transit District

The contest is scheduled to run from September 1st to September 30th. The Yamhill County Commissioners will decide the winner of the contest.

(MCMINNVILLE) - Yamhill County has announced it will give away a gift basket containing products from various Yamhill County vendors as part of a contest to name the county’s transit district.

When submitting an entry please include your name and contact information along with your suggested name for the district.

Upon recommendation from the local Yamhill Transportation Committee (YTC), the Board of Commissioners approved the formation of an ORS County Service District.

Pre-Notification Evacuations Ordered in Puzzle Fire

Pre-evacuation notification has been issued for Marion Forks, but NO evacuation has yet been issued. The fire is 30 percent contained and has charred 5,500 acres.

(MARION FORKS) - Here is the latest information on the Puzzle Fire: Low overnight relative humidities, along with high temperatures and sustained strong east winds in the early morning, pushed the southwest corner of this fire across a 1/4 mile lava field into a stringer of heavy fuels in the Puzzle Creek drainage early in the day on Saturday.

Westward expansion of the fire was checked by aggressive use of retardant and the hard work of the ground crews.

It has not moved any further downstream toward Marion Forks since mid-afternoon.

Volunteers Prepare Flags for the Healing Fields

The Field of Flags honors those lost September 11th 2001 and military personel who have died in service.

(SALEM) - Approximately 60 volunteers spent the morning at the Anderson Readiness Center, Oregon Army National Guard preparing the flags to be displayed at the Salem Riverfront Park next week. The goal is to "Raise a Flag for those who have Fallen".

The public is invited to attend any or all of the events scheduled between Sept. 7th - 12th. Volunteers are needed for several of the events as well.

Volunteers will be needed on Thursday, Sept. 7th, 2006 at 10:00 AM to assemble the 9/11 Field. Interested volunteers need to assemble by the Carousel. They will be 4,500 flags in the 9/11 Field.

Friday, Sept. 8th, 2006 at 10:00 AM, members of the different service branches of the military will assemble the "Military Field" honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. This field will be near the Pavilion on the north end of the park. The "military Field will be set up during a dedication ceremony where the names of the fallen will be read as the flags are posted.

New Breathalyzers to be Installed Throughout Oregon

During the installation phase-in period, training for around 3,500 police officers will be provided for certification to use the Intoxilyzer Model 8000 breath-alcohol testing instrument.

(SALEM) - The Oregon State Police Forensic Services Division will soon be installing 130 new Intoxilyzer Model 8000 breath-alcohol testing instruments around the State, replacing the current Intoxilyzer 5000 models that have been in use for over twelve years.
