Change Wal-Mart, Change America Bus Tour Visits Salem Friday

The WakeUpWalMart.com bus tour visits Portland and Vancouver, Washington Saturday. Salem is home to one “original” Wal-Mart, two Wal-Mart Superstores, and city leaders hope to lure a Wal-Mart distribution center to Salem in the near future.

(SALEM) - At the Oregon State Fair, in Salem on Friday, supporters of www.WakeUpWalMart.com were canvassing fairgoers and holding a membership drive throughout the day.

Salem-Keizer Transit District Route Changes, Fare Increases, Take Effect Tuesday

Cherriots will NOT operate on Labor Day, except for the State Fair shuttle.

(SALEM) - The Salem-Keizer Transit District wants to remind Cherriots and CherryLift users of the following route changes and price increases that take effect on Tuesday.

Note: The following times refer to the time the trip is scheduled to depart Courthouse Square in downtown Salem (or for West Salem routes, the time the route departs Glen Creek Transit Station).

Route 1, South Commercial: weekdays, eliminate the 6:30, 7:00, 7:30, and 8:00 AM trips, and the 6:00 PM trip.

Weyerhaeuser to Build New Sawmill, Permanently Close Another, in Lebanon

(LEBANON) - To make its lumber operations more efficient and competitive, Weyerhaeuser has announced the construction of a new sawmill and the closure of another, both in Lebanon.

Volunteers Sought For Albany River Cleanup Event

The event is one of two river cleanups held each year in Albany.

(ALBANY) - The City of Albany is sponsoring the annual fall river cleanup event taking place Saturday, September 16th, from 9:00 AM to noon.

Volunteers of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in the cleanup which will focus on removing debris from local rivers and streams, as well as marking city storm drains to prevent water pollution.

Volunteers should dress for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes.

Keizer Police Arrest Man for Indecent Exposure

Police say the man was already on probation for public indecency.

(KEIZER) - Keizer Police say a man who exposed himself and masturbated in front of children was arrested today just after 12:30 PM. Keizer Police Sgt. Bob Trump says the incident happened in front of kids who were playing outside Cummings Elementary School.

29-year old Dennis James Davidson was arrested for three counts of Public Indecency, Disorderly Conduct in the second-degree, Tampering with evidence and a Probation Violation.

Trump says the school’s principal and other adults also witnessed the incident and were on the phone with 911 while the suspect continued to masturbate in plain sight on the playground of the school.

New Website Encouragse a Permanent Solution to the Loss of Federal Timber Lands Funding

Polk County, Oregon launched a new website urging lawmakers to find a permanent solution for the loss of Federal Timber Lands funding. Without this funding, the citizens of Polk stand to lose 2.4 million annually in services including teachers, patrol deputies, and human services programs.

(DALLAS) - Polk County, Oregon recently launched a new website http://www.co.polk.or.us/OC/default.asp urging lawmakers to find a permanent solution for the loss of federal timber dollars.


The site also provides ways for local citizens to become involved in this effort, as well as background information on the O & C Lands, a photo gallery depicting historic logging in Polk County, and downloadable flyers, petitions, and related documents.

School is Starting, Police Ask Drivers to Pay Attention

(SALEM) - The end of summer is just about here and children of all ages will be returning to school next week. We have all probably become accustomed to driving normal speeds through school zones during the summer months.

The Salem Police Department would like to remind everybody that the children will again be out and about coming to and from school, and we should all make sure we exercise caution when driving, especially around schools.

Also, please remember that the School Zone speed guidelines will again be in effect when school resumes.

Forecast: Oregon in For a Warmer Winter, But Don’t Discount Big Portland Snowstorm

Skiers should expect a decent year, but nowhere near as good as last year.

(CORVALLIS) - For most of Oregon, the fall and winter weather this year should be comparatively warmer and maybe a touch wetter than usual – but with one big caveat.

Don’t discount the possibility of a big snowstorm – at least, in Portland.
