OSU, Corvallis Police Community Action Plan to Address Increased Activity Around College Hill

The CPD/OSU Greek Liaison Program has gained national recognition for its success.

(CORVALLIS) - Corvallis Police will implement a Community Policing Action Plan to provide an response to possible increased violations of City Ordinances and Oregon Revised Statutes in the College Hill area of Corvallis.

The change relates to the return of OSU students and increased activity in that area related to home OSU football games.

Sgt. Joel Goodwin says the plan is consistent with similar plans that have been implemented over the past decade to address community livability issues during these periods of increased activity.

Historic Train to Depart Brooklyn Yard at 5:00 PM Tonight

(PORTLAND) - The SP&S 700 Steam Engine is scheduled to leave at approximately 5:00 PM this evening, Friday, September 1st. It will head to Tigard where it will spend the night on a siding near the Hall Boulevard area.

On Saturday morning, sometime after 6:00 AM, the train will leave Tigard and proceed to Salem where it is on display during the 2nd Annual Salem Safety Faire on Saturday, September 2nd.

Originally, the train was to pull the "Plum Car" passenger car and a baggage car, along with a privately owned caboose. That consist has been changed and will now include the 700 engine, the "Running Crane Lake" and "Casper Mountain", both former GN passenger cars and the caboose.

Grand Opening Set for Juvenile Department Market and Coffee Shop

(SALEM) - The Marion County Juvenile Department announces the grand opening of the Fresh Start Market and Coffee Shop located at 3030 Center Street N.E. All are invited to attend the opening ceremony on September 13th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

The Marion County Juvenile Department is committed to public safety through holding youth accountable, compensating crime victims, and developing positive youth skills and behavior change.

The Juvenile Department provides a continuum of services and consequences including: detention, probation supervision, shelter care, community service and work skill development.

Third Alleged Victim in Police Impersonator Case Comes Forward

(CANBY) - A third victim of the Canby Police Officer Impersonation Case has come forward. The victim reported that he was contacted about a week ago by the suspect, 27-year-old David Joseph Leininger, while he was with his family in the area of Ackerman Jr. High in Canby.

The victim reported that he was talking to his son when Leininger drove up in a red Ford Bronco with flashing lights and blocked his vehicle.

Leininger allegedly told the victim that he should not be talking rude to his son (the victim's son) and that he was patrolling the area and would be watching him.

Be Aware! Highway 99 West at Marys River Bridge to Remain Closed

A northbound truck hauling a forklift on a trailer struck three overhead cross members of the historic bridge Wednesday morning, denting the first two and tearing completely through the third beam. A vertical beam was also broken in half.

(CORVALLIS) - The Marys River Bridge on Highway 99W in Corvallis will remain closed for at least another 10 to 14 days while the Oregon Department of Transportation engineers fixes for the damaged structure and hires a specialty repair contractor.

Although the damage is not extensive, the members damaged by the forklift are in a critical location that compromises the strength and carrying capacity of the entire bridge. ODOT bridge engineers are continuing work on the complex calculations needed to determine the extent of repairs.

Community Invited to Salem Recovery Event in Bush’s Pasture Park

(SALEM) - “Recovery Rocks” is the theme of a September 16th public event to celebrate the success of people recovering from addictions and mental illness.

The Saturday event is one of many scheduled across the state and nation as part of the 17th annual National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. It will run from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM in Bush’s Pasture Park and is open to people in recovery, their families and all who are interested.

There will be door prizes, children’s activities and snacks. Picnics are encouraged.

Canby Police Arrest Man For Impersonating a Police Officer

Police say David Leininger, allegedly to stopped two vehicles Wednesday night. In one case he handcuffed an 18-year-old female driver.

(CANBY) - Canby Police learned that 27-year-old David Leininger allegedly stopped another vehicle after he stopped an 18-year-old female driver in Canby on N Cedar Street at NW 6th.

The first victim was stopped at about 11:15 PM.

The second victim, who just recently came forward, told Officers he was stopped on Knights Bridge Road near Barlow road by a male driving a red Ford Bronco with flashing lights.

State Street Partially Reopened

(SALEM) - City of Salem Public Works and Horizon Restoration Inc. crews opened a single westbound-only travel lane on State Street from Commercial Street to the mid-block alley this morning at 9:00 AM.

This section of State Street had been closed to all traffic since the McMahan's fire on August 10th.

Two-way traffic is still permitted from the mid-block alley to the Front Street Bypass. There is no parking permitted along the single westbound-only travel lane on State Street; however, on-street parking is available on both sides of the west half of the block.
