State Police and DEA Move on Junction City Home Locating Several Meth Labs

(JUNCTION CITY) - State Police say that following a nearly two-month long investigation into an individual known to be manufacturing and selling methamphetamine, detectives and DEA agents served a search warrant Saturday morning that led to the man's arrest and the discovery of four separate meth labs on the property west of Junction City.

On Saturday, August 26th at 5:00 AM, State Police detectives with the Governor's Methamphetamine Initiative Team were joined by DEA agents from Eugene, a chemist from the San Francisco DEA crime laboratory, and members of the Oregon State Police Special Weapons and Tacticts Team.

Together, they executed a state search warrant at 24751 Lavell Road which is approximately 9 miles west of Junction City in rural Lane County. The property owner, H61-year old Arley Harold Brewer was the focus of the investigation.

Police Motorcycle Crashes Tuesday in Oregon City

(OREGON CITY) - An Oregon State Police (OSP) motor officer received minor injuries Tuesday morning while responding to a traffic crash. OSP Spokesman Greg Hastings says it happened when a pickup turned in front of the motorcycle. "At the time of the crash, the OSP motorcycle had emergency lights and siren activated."

Around 6:50 AM Tuesday, OSP Trooper Jason Lindland was operating an OSP 2004 BMW motorcycle northbound on Highway 99E in Oregon City responding to a reported traffic crash on Interstate 205.

"With emergency lights and siren activated, Trooper Lindland was in the left northbound lane approaching the intersection with 11th Street when a southbound 1986 Toyota pickup turned left towards 11th Street in front of Trooper Lindland."

(SILVERTON) - The typical Oregon household’s income remains stuck well below its level of a few years ago, despite a strong economy, according to new statistics released today by the U.S. Census Bureau and analyzed by the Oregon Center for Public Policy (OCPP), a Silverton public policy research institute.

The share of Oregonians going without health insurance for a year or more also remains high, and poverty has not improved.

“Oregon’s economy is doing great, but the prosperity is not being widely shared,” said Michael Leachman, policy analyst for the OCPP. “Oregonians should be proud of the economic growth they are producing, but they should also wonder why they aren’t seeing more of the benefits,” he added.

National/Oregon Average Gasoline Prices Falling

National average gasoline price still sliding downward at a fairly good clip; Oregon's decline is much slower...but at least heading lower.

(SALEM) - Since last week, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline dropped another 8-cents to $2.84. In Oregon, the decline was less dramatic—about 2-cents per gallon to $3.01.

Salem’s average of $2.96 is above Portland’s cost of $2.94 for a gallon of regular.

Salem-Keizer SAT Scores Remain Above National Average

(SALEM) - SAT scores for the class of 2006 were released Tuesday by the College Board. Salem-Keizer's scores remain above the national average and at about the same level as the state average.

Patients at State Hospital Gain Support Through Foundation Grants

(SALEM) - From musical instruments to aquarium fish, nearly $9,500 in newly awarded Oregon State Hospital Foundation grants will benefit patients on the hospital's Salem and Portland campuses.

The awards bring to more than $87,000 the amount the foundation has donated to benefit patients since 1993. This year's $9,494, divided among 17 projects, is the largest ever.

"Our goal is to promote excellence in mental health services and to improve the quality of life for State Hospital patients," said foundation president Dorothy
Haun of Salem, a registered nurse who was unit director on a forensic ward until her 1999 retirement.

Death Investigation of Burned Body Continuing

Police in Salem say the burned human remains have been identified as a deceased female, they are looking for information from the public.

(SALEM) - Salem Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman found burning under the 13th street bridge near Mill Race at about 1:00 AM on Tuesday August 29th.

Police officers arriving on the scene said the woman was already deceased when they arrived.

Investigators say they are still in the process of confirming her identity, and notification to her next of kin is still pending.

An autopsy was conducted Tuesday at the State Medical Examiner's office in Clackamas. It was determined that her death was caused by homicidal violence.

Small Quake Rattles Off Oregon Coast

(NEWPORT) - The U-S Geologic Survey says a minor earthquake shook Monday night nearly 300 miles off the Oregon coast.

The USGS says the 4.5 magnitude quake occurred just after 6:30 PM about 275 miles due west from Newport.

No injuries or damages were reported.
