Quick Thinking Kid is a Living Fire Alarm for Salem Family

Efren Lopez was on the ball when he told the family things were really heating up outside their house.

(SALEM) - A house fire on Madrona Avenue SE in Salem could have ended in tragedy Sunday night, but it didn’t. Instead, a young man who lives on nearby Marshall Drive spotted the fire, alerted the people inside, and saved the day.

Puzzle Fire Burning in Mount Jefferson Wilderness Grows Sunday

New restrictions are in effect in the Willamette National Forest because of the high fire danger.

(MARION FORKS) - The Puzzle fire grew Sunday to over 2,000 acres. Officials say they still don't know what started it.

Due to concerns for public safety in the vicinity of the Puzzle fire, the Willamette National Forest has closed a portion of the Mount Jefferson Wilderness effective Saturday.

The Puzzle fire is currently 30 acres in size and burning in dense, bug-killed, forest.

Lake George Fire Near Sisters Now 70 Percent Contained

The lightning-caused fire is being managed by Pacific Northwest Incident Management Team 3 under a joint delegation from the Deschutes National Forest, Willamette National Forest and Oregon Department of Forestry.

(SISTERS) - The Lake George Fire west of Sisters is now 70 percent contained and has blackend 5,253 acres.

DMV to Stop Accepting Rental Agreements as Proof of Address (AUDIO)

Applicants need at least one document from the DMV’s list of acceptable documents to prove their address if they do not already have an Oregon driver license, instruction permit or ID card showing their current address.

(SALEM) - Beginning Friday, the Oregon DMV will no longer accept rental agreements or lease contracts as proof of residence when customers apply for driver licenses or identification cards because they are too easy to counterfeit.

ODOT spokesman David House says state law requires proof of a person’s home address before DMV can issue a driver license, instruction permit or ID card because only Oregon residents are eligible for Oregon driving privileges and ID cards.

(SILVERTON) - Saturday night, our family got together and caravanned from Salem to the “Star Party” at Silver Creek Falls’ Old Ranch site to experience what the summer’s night sky might reveal.

The youngest of the group, 7-year old Ciana, and 5-year old Moria, were excited at this new adventure. Amazingly, the adults were too. We were not disappointed.

2-Alarm House Fire on Madrona (UPDATE)

A boy who lives on Marshall Drive spotted the fire and alerted the homeowners, likely saving their lives.

(SALEM) - A house at 1630 Madrona SE burned tonight, the extent of the damage still unknown. It appears the fire actually started in the back yard and eventually moved over to the house.

The first call of the 2-alarm fire came in at about 7:40 PM according to fire spokesman Sean Mansfield. Crews responded to the house fire and found the fire underway, causing exterior damage.

Aircrew Spots New Forest Fire

The growing blaze spotted by a crew from the Civil Air Patrol is near Puzzle Creek in the Willamette National Forest.

(MOUNT JEFFERSON) - An Oregon Wing Civil Air Patrol search aircraft responding to an ELT beacon spotted a new fire about five miles south of Mount Jefferson on the west side of the Cascade crest at Saturday around 8:45 AM.

Carol Connolly, of Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch, reported that the new fire was nearly 30 acres in size and growing in a heavily forested area about three miles north of Marion Lake near Puzzle Creek in the Willamette National Forest.

(MARION LAKE) - Due to concerns for public safety in the vicinity of the Puzzle fire, the Willamette National Forest has closed a portion of the Mount Jefferson Wilderness effective Saturday.

The Puzzle fire is currently 30 acres in size and burning in dense, bug-killed, forest.

The fire has been fought primarily from the air so far this morning; air tankers and large helicopters are doing their best to limit fire spread while ground crews are gaining access to the remote spot.
