Oregon Guard Launches Helicopter to Aid Search for Missing Man (UPDATED)

Launching repeatedly to search for the missing man, guard crews say they will probably resume the search Monday.

(SALEM) - The Oregon National Guard launched a UH-60 Blackhawk around 9:00 AM from the Army Aviation Support Facility in Salem today to assist the search for a man who has gone missing in Linn County.

The crew brought the helicopter back to the AASF in Salem late in the morning, then launched again to resume the search.

British Vintage Jet Crashes Into Hillsboro Neighborhood

Thousands attending the Hillsboro Airshow saw something they weren't expecting as a vintage jet tragically plunged into a neighborhood.

(HILLSBORO) - A 1959 British Hawker Hunter participating in the 2006 Oregon International Air Show crashed into a residential neighborhood near the Hillsboro Airport, setting at least two homes on fire just after 4:30 PM Sunday.

The pilot is reportedly a lawyer from California.

Connie King, a spokeswoman for the Hillboro Fire Department, said three homes were hit, one took a direct hit in the middle, and that so far there are no reports of any injuries on the ground.

Coast Guard Busy With Rescue Operations on Coast Saturday

The boys, ages 10,15, and 17, became stranded as the tide began to rise.

(LINCOLN CITY) - U.S. Coast Guard rescuers were busy Saturday along the central and north Oregon Coast. The first call came in just before 1:00 PM.

The Coast Guard then rescued a 15-year-old boy from an offshore rock near Lincoln City just before 2:00 PM. Coast Guard Station Depoe Bay received a call from Lincoln City dispatchers that two boys were trapped on an offshore rock near Lincoln City.

Oregon Travel Site Provides Weekend Weather and Lodging Reports

The new service should help those planning to stay overnight on the busy Oregon coast.

(PORTLAND) - If you’ve ever been frustrated by heading out to the Oregon coast during the summer and not being able to find a room, you may have found a friend online.

The Portland-based Website BeachConnection.net is starting weekly updates on lodging availability every Friday. The website covers the upper half of Oregon’s coast, some 180 miles. This week, it began providing information about which lodgings and vacation rental companies still have openings for the weekend.

Westlund Says Campaign Has Gathered Over 18,000 Signatures

Westlund must submit 18,368 valid signatures by the end of August to qualify for the November ballot.

(BEND) - State Senator Ben Westlund (I), Independent candidate for Governor says his campaign has gathered 18,390 signatures.

“Reaching this milestone demonstrates that Ben Westlund will be on the November ballot,” said Stacey Dycus, campaign manager. “Oregonians from all over the state are signing because they are ready for a leader who will bring together people from both parties to solve Oregon’s problems.”

The campaign will continue to gather signatures to account for those signatures deemed invalid.

Camp Adair Public Meeting Set For Tuesday in Corvallis

During it’s short operation, the camp, was the second largest city in Oregon.

(CORVALLIS) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is holding, a public informational meeting from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM, Tuesday, at the Santiam Christian Schools’ choir room, located at 7220 N.E. Arnold Ave., in Corvallis., to provide the public an overview of the Military Munitions Response Program (MMRP), Site Investigation (SI) process and the current work plan.

The Corps is evaluating Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) that had historically been used for military training.

One of these sites is Camp Adair and Adair Air Force Station, located in parts of Polk, Benton and Linn counties, near Corvallis.

OSU Hosts Summer Blood Drive

(CORVALLIS) - Oregon State University is hosting its annual two-day summer blood drive July 18th-19th in the campus Memorial Union Quad.

Appointments are needed and can be made online at www.givelife.org or call 800-GIVE-LIFE.

Donation hours on Tuesday, July 18th, are 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Wednesday, July 19th.

Giving blood takes less than one hour.

Weyerhaeuser Donates $10,000 to Stayton Public Library Expansion and Remodeling Capital Campaign

The funds will help remodel and build an addition to the library, primarily for use in the children and youth sections of the library.

(STAYTON) - The Stayton Public Library has received a $10,000 grant from the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation.

“Many of our iLevel associates and their families use the library, and it’s especially important to provide reading opportunities and access for all of our children locally,” said Rina Allen, manager of Weyerhaeuser’s iLevel facility in Stayton. “At Weyerhaeuser, we are committed to our communities in which we operate and this is a way for us to give something back.”

Allen said grant-making decisions are made at the local level by a group of company employees.

Beginning Monday at exit 234, drivers should watch for daytime shoulder closures, roadside workers and equipment on Knox Butte Road under I-5, and on the 99E northbound on-ramp to I-5 in Albany.

Be Aware! Mill Creek Bridge on Denver Street Closed Beginning August 1st

(MARION COUNTY) - The Marion County Department of Public Works wants you to Be Aware! of the complete closure of the Mill Creek Bridge on Denver Street east of School Ave beginning on August 1st.

The old bridge will be completely removed and a new bridge built in its place.

There will be delays due to traffic lane closures both before and after the bridge closure.

Traffic will be detoured via 55th Ave., Bear Lane and Marion Road.
