Canby Man is Critically Burned

(CANBY) - Canby Fire investigators say a 33-year old man working on an older motor home received burns when the motor backfired as he poured gasoline into the carburetor.

Firefighters responded to the scene on South Zimmerman Road Monday at 6:40 PM.

Investigators learned that the man was trying to keep the motor home's motor running but the backfire caused the gas to spill, critically burning the face, arms and chest over approximately 30 % of his body.

Firefighters say they quickly activated a Lifeflight Helicopter to transport the patient to the Oregon burn center for further treatment. Firefighter were on scene for 20 minutes. The man's name was not released by Canby Fire.

Salem City Council Proclaims July as Green Power Month

Currently, just over 2,500 Salem residential and small business customers are signed up for renewable energy from PGE.

(SALEM) - Salem Mayor Janet Taylor, along with the members of the Salem City Council proclaimed the month of July as the Green Power Month during Monday nights city council meeting.

The mayor and council challenged residents to sign up for renewable energy for their homes and businesses between now and the end of November.

The Green Power Month designation and five-month challenge is the first of its kind in Salem, and is designed to promote environmental stewardship.

The city’s goal is to increase reliance on renewable energy, including Portland General Electric’s (PGE’s) renewable power programs for residential and small business customers.

(SALEM) - Beginning Sunday night. Drivers need to watch for lane closures on Lockhaven Drive as crews pave the street near Keizer Station.

The work is a continuation of a project to revamp, widen and improve the road.

Crews will overlay Lockhaven from west of the railroad tracks to McLeod Lane NE, and continuing through to Klicitat Drive during evening hours.

The work began Sunday and should be completed by Wednesday morning.

Citizen Mason

Oregon Issues Safety Advisory on Kite Tubing

Enthusiasts say the new sport is fun, but the list of injuries includes broken backs and broken necks, serious to the degree that the Army Corps of Engineers has banned kite tubing in some areas for safety reasons.

(SALEM) - The Oregon State Marine Board, in cooperation with the Consumer Products Safety Commission, is advising water enthusiasts to use extreme care when using a new towable device called a "kite tube."

Marion County Fair is Dog-Gone great with Muddy Paws A-Flyin`

(SALEM) - As many as 100 dogs and their owners from the group Muddy Paws A-Flyin' will compete in flyball on Saturday, July 15th, from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM at the Marion County Fair on the State Fairgrounds in Salem.

"Flyball is the fastest paced dog sport there is. You can see how much fun these dogs are having just by looking and by listening to them," says Ed Clarkson, Muddy Paws representative. "There's very little that can compare with this style of head-to-head racing. Some races are won by hundredths, even thousandths of a second."

Flyball is a relay race with four dogs per team. The course consists of a starting line, four hurdles spaced ten feet apart, and a spring-loaded box. Each dog jumps the hurdles and steps on the box causing it to shoot out a tennis ball. The dog catches that tennis ball and then runs back over the four hurdles.

Boating Hazard Reported on South Santiam River

(SWEET HOME) - Boaters on the South Santiam River have reported a potentially dangerous obstruction about two miles below the Wiley Creek Park Boat Launch between Sweet Home and Foster Reservoir.

Amity Woman Stabbed in Her Home

(AMITY) - Investigators with the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office say a 40 year old Amity woman was stabbed in her home Monday morning. No charges have been filed, but the woman's 14-year old son is being questioned in the matter.

40-year old Jennifer Lin Lumsden of 6165 Yampo Road in rural Yamhill County, was taken by Life Flight helicopter to Emmanuel Hospital in Portland.

Oregon State Police Sex Offender Website Statistics for First Week

(SALEM) - Oregon State Police announced their new Sex Offender Website on June 29th. Since the announcement, OSP says significant public interest has been expressed about the site's first week of operation.

According to the Oregon State Police Sex Offender Website Project Manager, the website received approximately 3.5 million "hits" during the first week. For purposes of this release, a "hit" occurs when any one person views any single page on the website.

This should not be confused with the actual number of people logging on to the website.

Tangent Man Charged With Sex Abuse and Child Pornography

(TANGENT) - A Linn County man is in custody on $350k bail following his arrest for sex abuse and child pornography charges.

Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller says Linn County deputies took a report of possible sex abuse as well as internet child pornography at a residence in Tangent on the afternoon of July 5th.

Mueller says that based on the initial report and statements from witnesses, deputies executed a search warrant at the residence of 41-year-old Matthew Reece Sanders.
