Help Strike Out Meth at Volcanoes Stadium Friday

Striking Out Meth in Marion County celebration to be held during Volcanoes game on Friday evening.

(SALEM) - The Marion County Public Safety Coordinating Council, in conjunction with Volcanoes Baseball, is pleased to announce the first annual “Striking Out Meth in Marion County.”

The celebration will be held at Volcanoes Stadium, on Friday, July 14th, as the Volcanoes play the Tri City Dust Devils. Gates open at 6:00 PM and the game begins promptly at 7:05 PM. Everyone attending the game is welcome to participate.

Marion County Fair This Weekend

It's that time of year again, the Marion County Fair kicks off this's event with entertainment, agriculture, and a long list of fun activities for the entire family.

(SALEM) - The 2006 Marion County Fair will delight all ages with more events and activities than ever before. The fair will be held July 13th-16th on the Oregon State Fairgrounds.

Car buffs are invited to show the custom cars, hot rods and special interest cars a the Cruise In, sponsored by South Commercial Auto Sales, at the fair on Sunday, July 16th, from noon to 4:00 PM.

Attorney General Encourages Employers to Fully Participate in Oregon`s Child Support Program

(SALEM) - In keeping with Oregon Child Support Program’s vision, “Children can depend on their parents to provide the support they need,” Attorney General Hardy Myers announced that a technical seminar is scheduled for Oregon employers to learn about their legal obligations relating to child support.

The seminar is scheduled for 8:30 AM, August 23rd, 2006, at the Red Lion Inn, 3301 Market Street in Salem.

Employers are key partners in the success of the Child Support Program in Oregon by helping children and families receive the support to which they are entitled.

The seminar is designed to provide employers with information about laws enacted by the Oregon Legislature between 1989 and 2003.

Oregon National Guard Invites Medical Providers to Open House

(SALEM) - The Oregon National Guard will host an open house for area medical and dental providers July 14th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Anderson Readiness Center in Salem.

In recent years, thousands of Oregon National Guard members have answered the call in our local communities and around the world. Each time these soldiers deploy they require medical and dental examinations.

The medical staff of the Oregon National Guard will welcome local area medical and dental professionals at the ARC and answer questions about they can care for the soldiers and support the military community through their profession.

Semi-Truck Grinds to a Halt in Oregon City Tunnel

Nobody was hurt when the Kenworth semi-truck ground to a sudden halt.

(OREGON CITY) - A commercial truck towing a semi-trailer loaded with wire spools became temporarily stuck Tuesday morning on Highway 99E in the Oregon City tunnel.

The stall required the closure of one lane for about two hours before the vehicles could be removed.

It started when a 1999 Kenworth truck became stuck at 5:30 AM while towing a semi-trailer loaded with wire spools while traveling southbound on Highway 99E entering the Oregon City tunnel.

Gasoline Prices on the Rise Nationwide

Fuel prices, nationwide, on the rise. The biggest jumps are in the Midwest and East Coast areas where demand is high due to increasing numbers of drivers and vehicles on the roads. Crude oil still in mid-$70 per barrel range. OPIS forecasts it could eclipse $80 or more in the next 60 days.

(SALEM) - Gasoline prices continue their forward march, and since last week, the national average gained almost 4-cents to $2.97 per gallon. In Oregon, the increase was a bit slower—almost 2-cents per gallon to $2.97. Of the state's four measured metropolitan areas, the greatest increase was in Salem—3 and a half cents per gallon, at $2.93.

Regular gasoline in Portland is selling for $2.93; drivers in Eugene/Springfield are paying $2.98. Medford/Ashland gasoline is currently $3.019 and Vancouver, Washington residents are paying an average of $2.95.

Crude oil continues to trade in the mid-$70 per barrel range. Analysts at the Oil Price Information Service, which provides AAA's fuel information, forecast that momentum, spurred by demand and the increasing number of drivers and vehicles, could push the price of crude to more than $80 per barrel within the next 60 days.

Elk Bugling Callers Wanted

The Calling in the Cascades is a benefit for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, a nonprofit conservation organization.

(SALEM) - The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) is presenting its fourth annual Calling in the Cascades Elk Bugling Contest at the Sportsman’s Warehouse in Salem, Friday and Saturday July 14th and 15th, in conjunction with the RMEF Great Elk Tour, which continues through Sunday, July 16th.

In addition to the Bugling contests, Friday and Saturday events include free seminars and free trophy scoring, exhibition calling, raffle drawings, vendor exhibits and top hunting and calling experts conducting clinics, including four time world champion Dieter Kaboth and National Champion Jim Horn.

Professionals will be on hand demonstrating the latest in rifle and archery techniques as well as the latest equipment in hunting, calling, caring for your mount and youth hunting.

234 Army Band to Give Free Concert in Salem

The 234 is lead by Unit Commander/Bandmaster Chief Warrant Officer James Powell of Oregon City and First Sergeant James Langford of Salem.

(SALEM) - "Oregon's Own" 234 Army Band will perform a free concert at Salem's Historic Elsinore Theatre, located at 170 High St SE, on Sunday July 16th at 3:00 PM.

The Salem concert is the first in a series of 10 performed as a tribute to Oregon Communities for their support of the Oregon Army and Air National Guard.

The series will be performed over the next three summers in several communities throughout Oregon and will feature music that runs gamut of musical genres from Marches, Classic Concert Band, Big Band Jazz and Rock & Roll.

To call the video disturbing is a huge understatement and it will not be shown here out of respect for the families. It is one of the most brutal and shameful series of images ever committed to tape.

(IRAQ) - A 4:39 minute video showing the desecration of the bodies of two U.S. soldiers has been released on the Internet by an al Qaeda linked group.

The news of the video release follows the recent burials in the United States of U.S. Army Pfc Thomas Tucker and Pfc Kristian Menchaca, who were members of the 101st Airborne division abducted by al Qaeda in Iraq. A third soldier died in the attack.
