Oregon Man Shot During Alleged Child Abduction Attempt at Las Vegas Airport

Las Vegas officers shot Allgood and rescued the child unharmed, amidst bystanders at the 11th busiest airport in the world.

(LAS VEGAS) - An Oregon man is in critical condition at a Las Vegas, Nevada hospital after being shot by police during an alleged child abduction attempt at McCarran Airport.

Tuesday at approximately 4:24 PM a mother and her 3-year-old son were in a toy store at McCarran Airport. They were waiting for their flight to depart.

Las Vegas Metro Police say that without warning, 19-year-old Michael John Allgood of Oregon grabbed the small child and put a knife to the boy`s throat. While clutching the child tightly, Allgood ran through the exit lane of the crowded passenger security checkpoint of the A-B Gates.

John Edwards to Address National Conference in Portland

(PORTLAND) - John Edwards, former U.S. Senator from North Carolina and 2004 vice presidential candidate, will be in Portland on Friday to address the National Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women.

Edwards` speech, `Restoring the American Dream: Fighting Poverty and Strengthening the Middle Class,` is expected to draw about 400 conference attendees, elected officials and members of the public.

Senate President Peter Courtney, Senator Margaret Carter and other officials also will make brief remarks at the event.

Oregon Average Gasoline Price Still Declining

Heavy July 4th travel could drive up demand and pump prices. Oregon average prices are still falling, but crude oil is closing above $70 per barrel again.

(SALEM) - After one week below the $70 per barrel mark, the price of crude oil is again above that threshold and although the national average gasoline price is down a penny from one week ago, it moved slightly upward over the weekend.

Oregon's statewide average price for a gallon of regular in the same time period went down another 4-cents to $2.98. In three of the four measured metropolitan areas in the state, the decline was more than a nickel a gallon.

Missing Man Found Safe on Santiam River Near Jefferson

A good story in the mix of several recent drowning tragedies, this 24-year old man opted for safety.

(JEFFERSON) - A 24-year old Albany man is safe and sound after spending an evening stranded on a riverbank.

Elaine Parrott with Jefferson Fire says it began at approximately 6:30 PM Monday, when four adults began a downriver float at Green Bridge Rd. and Jefferson Scio Rd. east of Jefferson.

"They were floating down the river on inner tubes but were not wearing life jackets. Just before the confluence of the north and south Santiam River, the water became too shallow and the party walked a short ways and got back in the river."

Keizer Water Rates to Increase Next Month

Money generated from the increases will pay for new and replacement wells, reservoirs and pipeline replacement.

(KEIZER) - Beginning August 1st, Keizer residents will be paying more for water. The Keizer City Council last week approved a 4 percent water rate increase.

The increase means residents on average will pay between $7 and $8 more per year for water services, and the average Keizer business will pay between $21 and $22 more per year.

Residents will also see an increase in the administrative fee associated with sewer bills.

Head-On Crash at Chemawa Road Causes Critical Injuries

Police say alcohol may have been a factor in the head-on collision that closed a freeway exit ramp on I-5 for two hours.

(KEIZER) - Two people were seriously injured early Monday morning in a two car head-on crash that police say involved a wrong way driver on the Interstate 5 northbound exit ramp at the Chemawa interchange at Keizer.

The freeway exit ramp was closed about two hours and Oregon State Police troopers say they are investigating alcohol as a possible contributing factor.

City of Albany Reminding Residents of RV Parking Ordinance

(ALBANY) - With summer underway, the City of Albany is reminding city residents of laws that apply to where recreational vehicles or travel trailers may be parked.

City ordinances allow motor homes, travel trailers, fifth-wheel trailers, and other recreational vehicles to be parked on public rights-of-way for up to 48 hours with the consent of the adjacent property owner. Without that permission, vehicles may not be stored on the street for more than 24 hours.

Any vehicle or combination of vehicles more than 23 feet long or 8 feet wide cannot be parked on a street, alley, public parking lot, or parking strip between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM weekdays or all day Saturday, Sunday, and holidays.

HEAT Advisory Issued For Willamette Valley Until 7 PM Tuesday

People in the affected areas should stay out of the heat as much as possible, as record high temperatures are expected throughout the inland valleys.

(SALEM) - The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the Willamette Valley, northwest Oregon, and southwest Washington for Monday through 7:00 PM Tuesday.

High temperatures in much of the inland valleys of northwest Oregon will be over 100 degrees, and record high temperatures will be threatened in many locations.

Cooler temperatures are in store for Tuesday and the remainder of the week, although highs are expected to remain above seasonal normals.
