(SALEM) - salem-news.com Linn County Sheriff`s Office divers recovered the body of 13-year-old Maria Martinez Sunday just before 2:00 PM in Walter Wirth Lake at Cascade Gateway Park.

Since Friday, there have been four deaths on Oregon waterways.

Governor Kulongoski has ordered all flags at public institutions be flown at half-staff Monday, in memory of Private First Class Thomas Tucker of Madras.

Salem Police and Salem Fire Department will increase their enforcement of illegal fireworks this Fourth of July holiday.

AP: Iraqi Troops Killed 2 U.S. Soldiers

(SAN FRANCISCO) - Two California soldiers shot to death in Iraq were murdered by Iraqi civil-defense officers patrolling with them, military investigators have found.

But the Army's Criminal Investigation Command found that one or more of the Iraqis attached to the American soldiers on patrol fired at them, a military official said Tuesday. A Pentagon spokesman knew of no other similar incident, calling it "extremely rare."

(SALEM) - The family of an Oregon soldier missing in Baghdad says it has heard no word from the military but a family spokesman says they are prepared for the worst.

Two 15-year-old Sprague High School students were arrested Tuesday for starting the fire in the girl's bathroom on Wednesday, the first of two suspicious fires in one week at the school.

Friday`s community enforcement and crime prevention event in east Salem, and Keizer led to 44 arrests. In addition, nearly 4 oz of cocaine were seized along with small amounts of other drugs.

Oregon Mourns a Soldier (AUDIO)

Local radio and TV stations are staying close to the story, hear reports from our news partner, Newsradio 1190 KEX in Portland, Oregon.

(MADRAS) - The family and friends of Army Private First Class Thomas Tucker of Madras, a soldier believed to have been killed in Iraq this week, say they appreciate the outpouring of support from people all around the nation.

U.S. Maj. Gen. William Caldwell said the remains found by U.S. troops were believed to be those of Thomas Tucker, 25, and Private First Class Kristian Menchaca, 23, of Houston, Texas.

Teens Arrested in Sprague High School Arson Investigation

(SALEM) - Arson investigation Two 15-year-old girls were both charged with Arson 1 for starting the fire in the girl's bathroom at Sprague High School. Investigators say they are still looking for information on the Arson Fire at the concession stand.

Sprague High School was the scene of a second arson fire within the last week. The first fire on Wednesday June 14th was set in the girl's bathroom.

The most recent fire was discovered in the outside concession stand by the stadium. Fire investigators say it is fortunate that the fire burned itself out and damage was kept to a minimum.

Iraqi: Soldiers Killed in `Barbaric Way`

"Troops did not recover the bodies until Tuesday because they had to wait until daylight to cordon off the area for an ordnance team for fear it was booby-trapped"... Caldwell said.

(BAGHDAD, Iraq) - U.S. forces on Tuesday recovered the bodies of two American soldiers reported captured by insurgents last week. An Iraqi defense ministry official said the men were tortured and "killed in a barbaric way."

Al-Qaida Iraq claimed responsibility for killing the soldiers, and said the successor to terror leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi had "slaughtered" them.

The claim was made in a Web statement that could not be authenticated. The language in the statement suggested the men were beheaded.

Crude Oil, Average Gasoline Prices Move Downward

Prices continue to fall, with crude oil prices bouncing a bit.

(SALEM) - As the price of crude oil remains below $70 per barrel, consumers enjoy a steady decline in fuel prices. In the past week, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline fell by more than 3-cents; Oregon's statewide average decline was almost a nickel a gallon.

Salem drivers are paying an average of $3.01 for a gallon of regular gas. Average prices in the Eugene-Springfield and the Medford-Ashland metropolitan areas dropped by six-cents per gallon.

For the first time since May 9th, the Portland average price is less than $3 with per gallon prices ranging from $2.84 in Troutdale to as much as $3.08 in other sections of the metro area.

Craigslist Adds Salem Section

(SALEM) - Craig Newmark, Founder of Craigslist Entries started appearing Sunday in the new Salem Oregon section of the internationally popular online classified ads service, craigslist.org. Prior to the addition of salem.craigslist.org, Salem residents had to place ads under the section for the nearest listed city, Portland, and then put 'Salem' in the specific location field of the ad.

Statement From the Family of PFC Thomas L. Tucker

(MADRAS) - The family of Tom Tucker would like to thank the community of Madras and all of Central Oregon. Especially the people at Brightwood, the school district, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department and the Oregon National Guard.

They want everyone to know that it may seem like they are secluded with the roadblocks and extra security, but, they are very grateful for the outpouring of support, prayers, food and love that the community has shown.
