Street Crimes Detectives Arrest Two Men at Their Salem Home

(SALEM) - Detectives making an arrest in Salem Tuesday afternoon found more than they were looking for.

Kevin Rau, Spokesman for the Marion County Sheriff`s Office, says it happened Just after 3:00 pm Tuesday,

Street Crimes Detectives arrested 27-year-old Ronald Kraemer near his home at 4433 Lance Ct NE in Salem on outstanding arrest warrants for Violation of a Restraining Order and Probation Violation.

After taking him into custody, Rau says the investigators went to Kraemer`s home...

Oregon Average Gasoline Price Down; as National Average Inches Forward

(SALEM) - gas nozzle For the second consecutive week, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline moved forward—going up by almost 3-cents per gallon. The Oregon statewide average, however, dropped almost 3-cents to $3.06. The average price for a gallon of regular in Salem and Portland is $3.02.

Yet, the national average price remains more than 16 cents per gallon lower than the Oregon average. In Oregon's four measured metropolitan areas, Salem recorded a four-and-a-half cent per gallon drop in the average price.

Some concern that Tropical Storm Alberto had the possibility of disrupting Gulf Coast oil operations kept oil prices above $70 per barrel. Now that the storm is passing, prices may start dropping.

Mother Russia: A Land Still Filled With Contradiction

This is the first in a series of reports from Russia from Michael Patrick O'Connor.

(SAINT PETERSBURG, Russia) - Tears well in my eyes seeing Russian soil again for the first time in 14 years. Do not misunderstand me. I bleed the red, white and blue of the American flag--not the Russian banner of the same colors. As a proud American, I am equally unabashed in believing and articulating that I possess a Russian soul.

With that preamble, my reportage and editorial from along the banks of the Neva River in the Venice of the North (Saint Petersburg) cannot help but include my bias. This vision of the city sees much to be admired and much that draws concern.

The Russian people and the Russian landscape is a
dichotomy just as it has always been. Winston Churchill said, "Russia is a riddle, wrapped in mystery inside an enigma". The more things change, the more they remain the same.

Deadline Extended for Extreme Teen Band Challenge at the Marion County Fair

(SALEM) - kiids in band The Marion County Fair is extending the deadline to June 23rd for teens who want a chance to show off their musical talents and win up to $1,000.

Teen bands with a majority of members 21 or younger are encouraged to enter. The entry fee for a band is $40.

The Extreme Teen Band Challenge is a featured event of Extreme Teen Challenge Day on Friday, July 14th. Teen admission will be only $1 that day.

Stolen Oregon Fireworks May be Connected to Fatal Crash in California

Two Salem residents are in jail after their truck, loaded with what police describe as stolen fireworks, struck a small car head-on killing two people in California's Central Valley.

(COALINGA, Ca.) - The California Highway Patrol says a truck carrying fireworks that they believe are stolen, was involved in a crash on Interstate-5 in California's Central Valley that killed two people.

The driver apparently fell asleep before losing control and striking a small car head-on.

Center Street NE Closure Begins Tuesday (AUDIO)

(SALEM) - A portion of Center Street NE will be closed to through traffic between 17th Street NE and 14th Street NE beginning Tuesday June 13th, and it is not expected to reopen until early October. During this period, crews will replace the bridge on Center Street that spans Mill Creek.

Alberto Prompts Evacuation on Florida Coast

(CEDAR KEY, Fla.) - More than 20,000 people along Florida's Gulf Coast were ordered to clear out Monday as Alberto” the very first tropical storm of the new hurricane season” unexpectedly picked up steam and threatened to come ashore as a hurricane.

Forecasters posted a hurricane warning for the Gulf Coast and a tropical storm warning from north of Daytona Beach to the Georgia-South Carolina line, saying Alberto could begin battering the coast early Tuesday.

Gov. Jeb Bush signed a declaration of emergency allowing him to call up the National Guard and put laws against price gouging into effect.
