California Suspect Arrested Following High-Speed Chase

(TANGENT) - Linn County deputies arrested a 24-year-old Gresham man after a high-speed chase Monday.

They later found that the man is wanted on a homicide charge in California.

Sheriff Tim Mueller says 24-year-old Alejandro Guzman was found hiding in some woods after he abandoned his car.

A Linn County deputy tried to stop Guzman`s car in the town of Tangent south of Albany when the chase started. The Corvallis police department also joined in the chase Mueller said.

(SALEM) - Turner Road under Interstate 5 in south Salem will be closed to all traffic from 7:00 PM Tuesday through 5:00 AM Thursday for bridge work.

Oregon City Man Injured in Motor Vehicle Crash Near Keizer

(KEIZER) - Investigators believe that speed and alcohol were factors in a crash Monday afternoon that sent two men to the hospital, one with serious injuries.

It happened just before 1:00 PM Monday at Wheatland Rd NE near Brooklake Rd NE, north of Keizer, according to Kevin Rau with the Marion County Sheriff`s Office.

He says that based on the preliminary investigation, it appears the black 1991 Nissan was being driven by 23-year-old James Reasons III, of Oregon City who lost control in a curve, causing the car to leave the road, go down an embankment and hit a tree.

Oregon`s Unemployment Rate Remains Steady (AUDIO)

(SALEM) - Oregon`s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in May was essentially unchanged at 5.6 percent, from 5.5 percent in April. The state`s unemployment rate has been stable this year, with the rate staying between 5.3 percent and 5.6 percent for the first five months of the year.

The U.S. unemployment rate was 4.6 percent in May, about the same as the 4.7 percent reading in April, and at its lowest level since July 2001 when the rate was 4.6 percent.

Oregon`s seasonally adjusted nonfarm payroll employment grew substantially, adding 4,000 jobs in May. The revised April figure showed a loss of 500 jobs, which was the first monthly job loss since January 2004 when severe storms resulted in a monthly employment decline.

High Speed Traffic Stop Near Baker City Leads to Arrest of Man Wanted out of Marion County

(BAKER CITY) - A Boise, Idaho man wanted out of Marion County was arrested near Baker City Sunday afternoon after an Oregon State Police trooper stopped him for driving over 120 mph on Interstate 84.

OSP Senior Trooper Jeff Spencer says he stopped the 2002 Honda Accord two-door at 5:45 PM Sunday for traveling 121 mph westbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 304.

While in contact with the driver, identified as 22-year old Jose Manuel Prater of Boise, Idaho, Spencer determined he was wanted out of Marion County on a felony warrant for 2 counts of Delivery of a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Courthouse Restoration Progressing

(SALEM) - Over the past couple of weeks, Marion County employees have been moving back into the courthouse.

They have been locked out for more than six months after a November 12th incident caused extensive damage and scattered nearly 200 people to alternative locations to conduct public business while repairs are being done.

FBI: Crime in Salem Down in 2005 (AUDIO)

The only increase in crime was in auto vehicle thefts which rose by 8.3 percent. Nationwide the number of violent crimes rose 2.5 percent.

(Washington, D.C.) - The FBI released it`s Preliminary Annual Uniform Crime Report for 2005 on Monday, which showed a mixed direction in crime nationwide: the number of violent crime offenses rose 2.5 percent, but the number of property crime offenses decreased 1.6 percent when compared with data from 2004.

The FBI collected the preliminary data from 12,485 law enforcement agencies that submitted 6 to 12 months of offense data through the Uniform Crime Reporting Program in both 2004 and 2005.

Stolen Truck Used to Steal Fireworks Found in Salem

(SALEM) - A truck used to steal an estimated $500,000 worth of fireworks from a storage facility this weekend in Clackmas has been found in Salem.

The 1997, 26-foot-long white box truck was found abandoned in the 3400 block of Brady Court NE around 6:30 AM, Salem police said.

An employee who works at a nearby business spotted the truck and alerted police.

The stolen fireworks belong to retailer American Promotional Events in Clackamas.

They were stolen Saturday night from a storage facility in Clackamas County, said Jim Strovink, a detective with the Clackamas County Sheriff`s Office.

Hurricane Warning Issued For Alberto

(TAMPA, Fla.) - A hurricane warning was posted for part of Florida's Gulf Coast on Monday as Tropical Storm Alberto, the first named storm of the 2006 Atlantic hurricane season, quickly gained strength in the Gulf of Mexico.

The warning, extending about 200 miles from Longboat Key near Sarasota to the Ochlockonee River south of Tallahassee, meant Alberto was expected to produce hurricane conditions within the next 24 hours.

A tropical storm warning remained in effect from Longboat Key south to Englewood and from the Ochlockonee west to Indian Pass.
