Without due care, the descent to a hard-landing can be disastrous.

That is what is happening, has already happened, and will continue to happen -- if we are so neglectful as to allow it to take place, any longer, in a democracy where our voices rule -- even yet, and even against `corporate campaign contributions`.

McMinnville UFO Parade Looms Closer

(MCMINNVILLE) - The McMinnville, Oregon community once again welcome all UFO believers, aliens, skeptics and the like for the annual UFO parade and UFO Fest. The UFO Parade will make its annual trek down Third Street on Saturday the 20th.

The McMinnville Downtown Associations Cyndi Fusek says the event will be a real blast, "Celebrate with us this year as we welcome Mr. Mac High, Cameron Schmidt, and fellow contestants as Grand Marshall`s of the parade! We have two marching bands from McMenamins, the McMenamins Marching band and the Hammerheads with March Forth, beginning and ending the parade."

She says Vivid Curve, a didgeridoo band out of Portland will help children in creating their very own instruments – and then bring all down to march in the parade. The Klingon`s from Salem`s Star Trek Club will make an appearance, and Columbus Elementary will entertain the crowds with twelve unicyclists.

Mannix Pulls All Comparative TV Ads

Mannix picks up key endorsement from statewide veterans’ group.

(LAKE OSWEGO) - Kevin Mannix announced Friday that he will pull all comparative TV ads in the final days of the primary election declaring he is staying strictly optimistic with his message.

"I feel Oregon voters need to hear a clear communication of what I can accomplish for the future of this state. Therefore I am pulling all comparative spots for the remainder of my campaign and focusing on our positive message."

Mannix announced that for the next five days, all ads running on TV will focus on his track record for reform and his positive vision for Oregon.

Owner of Rotweiller That Attacked Small Child at Fairgrounds Charged

(SALEM) - The owner of a Rotweiller dog that suddenly attacked a two-year old girl April 29th on State Fairgrounds property where she was walking with her mother and grandmother, was cited by Oregon State Police following an investigation into the incident.

The injured child was released from the hospital the next day following treatment for chest wounds. The dog reportedly has been put to sleep at the request of its owner.

Oregon State Police Trooper Mark Davie cited the dog's owner, 28-year old James Wilson of Mosier, for one count of Recklessly Endangering Another Person, a Class A misdemeanor. Wilson was cited to appear in Marion County Circuit Court on June 1st, 2006 at 9:30 AM.

State Police say investigation learned that the incident occurred during an agricultural event at the State Fairgrounds on Saturday, April 29th at approximately 9:30 AM, when Suzy Nofziger of Tangent, was walking with her two-year old daughter and the child's grandmother in the parking lot area towards one of the buildings.

Man Described as Oregon Fugitive Captured in Texas

Additionally, Jones' father, 65-year old George Leroy Jones, was arrested May 7th by Yamhill County Sheriff's deputies on charges related to helping his son flee from Oregon.

(JUNCTION, TX) - A man who escaped from an Oregon correctional facility has been captured by deputies in Texas. 31-year old Matthew Brian Jones was arrested by Kimball County, Texas Sheriff's deputies as he slept in his father's car in a Junction, Texas, rest area.

Information provided by the Oregon Department of Corrections Fugitive Apprehension Unit led to the capture of the minimum-security inmate, who escaped from custody May 5th.

State Police Investigating Charter Vessel Operators Death

(WALDPORT) - Oregon State Police are investigating the death of a Charter Vessel operator southwest of Newport.

OSP Stg. Todd Thompson said on Saturday the Charter Vessel Three Bears was on a Halibut fishing trip 11-miles west of Waldport.

The operator, 52-year-old James Edson, was attempting to land a large Halibut when he fell overboard.

Rescue attempts by the passengers were unsuccessful. A USCG 47 ft Motor Life boat arrived on scene about 15 minutes after Edson fell into the water.

Congress Demands Phone Records Answers

On Capitol Hill, several lawmakers expressed incredulity about the program, with some Republicans questioning the rationale and several Democrats railing about a lack of congressional oversight.

(WASHINGTON – AP) - Lawmakers demanded answers from the Bush administration Thursday about a spy agency secretly collecting records of millions of ordinary Americans' phone calls to build a database of all calls within the country.Facing mounting congressional criticism, President Bush sought to assure Americans that their civil liberties were "fiercely protected."

"The government does not listen to domestic phone calls without court approval," said Bush, without confirming the program of the National Security Agency. "We're not mining or trolling through the personal lives of millions of innocent Americans."

The disclosure, reported in USA Today, could complicate Bush's bid to win confirmation of former National Security Agency Director Michael Hayden as CIA director. It also reignited concerns about privacy rights and touched off questions about the legal underpinnings for the government's actions and the diligence of the Republican-controlled Congress' oversight of a GOP administration.

Capitol Fire Med Fee to Increase

(SALEM) - The Capital Fire Med (CFM) ambulance subscription fee will be increasing to $50 per membership beginning July 1st, 2006.

The rising costs of administering the Capital Fire Med program, continued increases in insurance deductibles and the volume of membership utilization have necessitated this fee increase.

Capital Fire Med fees have not increased in over ten years and will still be at or below the amount charged by similar sized Fire Med agencies.

Capital Fire Med is a jointly run program between Salem Fire Department, Keizer Fire District and Marion County Rural Fire Protection District #1. Rural Metro Ambulance also honors this program through it's partnership with Salem Fire Department.

Silverton Man Killed in Thursday Morning Crash Was Watchman at Capital Manor

The staff and residents of the retirement facility in West Salem are still in shock and disbelief that one of their own was killed by a suspected drunk driver

(SALEM) - A Thursday morning crash in Polk County, at the intersection of Highway 99W and Highway 22, claimed the life of 67-year-old Edward Douglas from Silverton who, for the past 4-years, had been a well loved night watchman at Capital Manor. Capital Manor Executive Director Scott Ferguson said the staff and residents are still in shock over Douglas` death.

`The residents loved him, he would take the extra time just to sit and talk with them about anything, this is a HUGE loss for everyone here` Ferguson said.

Staff members said they appreciated and respected Douglas because when it was dark outside, he would watch them to make sure they made it safely to and from their cars.

As one staff member put it, `he was one of the good guys".

22-year-old Jonathan Orsborn from Dallas remains in the Polk County Jail on a number of charges.
