We make it every day never knowing what`s in it or its meaning; until years later when historians assemble patterns we built, and publish it.

In Salem these days, it`s intriguing to see one culture meet another, after `over-border` activities stressful for all.

National Nurses Week is May 6th-12th

(SALEM) - The work of America's 2.9 million registered nurses to save lives and to maintain the health of millions of individuals is the focus of this year's National Nurses Week, celebrated annually May 6th to May 12th throughout the United States.

"Nurses: Strength, Commitment and Compassion," is the theme for 2006 National Nurse's Week which traditionally starts on May 6th and ends on May 12th, the birthday of Florence Nightengale, founder of nursing as a modern profession.

Cemetery Wants to Donate Land For State Hospital`s Unclaimed Remains

They wish to give back part of the land donated to the Jason Lee Mission Cemetery by the Oregon Insane Asylum in 1887. Now, Momyer says they are willing to give back 1.5 to 2 acres of the donated property so the hospital can lay to rest the remaining unclaimed remains.

(SALEM) - The Jason Lee Mission Cemetery is offering to donate land to the Oregon State Hospital, as a final resting place for the nearly 3,600 unclaimed remains of psychiatric patients from the late 1880`s to the mid 1970`s.

Cemetery board member Jim Momyer, said back on August, 29, 1887 the Oregon Insane Asylum, which changed it`s name to Oregon State Hospital in 1919, donated 6.5 acres to the cemetery located on D Street. The cemetery paid $50 for the land.

Teens Host Gubernatorial Forum on Local TV

Teens show their political power by hosting a forum of their own

(GRESHAM) - The American Teen Television Network made a new stride for young people last Sunday. The group hosted the 2006 Gubernatorial Youth Forum on May 7th at the Metro East Television Studios in Gresham.

According to Austin Reed, ATTN Producer, `The purpose of the forum is to encourage young adults to participate in the process of voting. It also gives the candidates insight into the concerns of young adults.`

Students from Portland State, Multnomah Bible College, Concordia, Reed, and area high schools were in attendance to ask questions of the candidates including: Jim Hill (D), Pete Sorenson (D), Ben Westlund (I), W. Ames Curtright (R), Gordan Leitch (R), Bob Forthan (R), and William Spidal (R).

The rising cost of gasoline in the Mid-Wilamette Valley takes a pause just short of the three dollar mark.

(SALEM) - The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded seems to be stabilizing in the mid-valley.

An overnight gas price in Salem of $2.98 is unchanged from Sunday.

In Eugene the price is $3.08, in Portland-Vancouver the price is $2.99, and in Medford-Ashland the price rose slightly to $3.08.

State Police Seek Information in Crash That Killed Four

Police hope to find witness information to aid in their investigation.

(GOVERNMENT CAMP) - Four individuals lost their lives in a crash Sunday afternoon 8 miles east of Government Camp and investigators are trying to figure out what went wrong to cause such a catastrophic loss.

State Police say they responded to the fatal crash report at about 1:20 PM Sunday.

Oregon State Police Spokesman Greg Hastings says they are hoping someone may have seen the vehicles prior to the crash, 'We are asking for the public's assistance in locating anyone who might have been eastbound on US Hwy 26 near the time of the crash. We are specifically interested in anyone who may have seen a 1999 black BMW 328i 4 door, prior to the crash, traveling eastbound.'

(SALEM) - High gas prices means the inventory`s selling fast at Electric Wheels Incorporated in Salem. Owner Larry Dye says the new cars go 40 Miles an hour, `They`re really well received here in Oregon.`

(SALEM) - The last time protestors from P.E.T.A. came to Salem, they were assaulted by a man who threw a bucket of hot gravy at one of them, behaving abusively toward a female protestor as he verbally and physically attacked them for essentially, asserting their rights as Americans.

He also tried to pick a fight with this reporter. In typical bully fashion, he was tough until he realized that the counter-offer was good.
