Teen Dies in Single Car Crash

(LEBANON) - Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller says his agency is sad to report that a 17-year old boy died as the result of injuries he received when his car collided with a driveway culvert on Lacomb Road at approximately 5:00 PM Monday afternoon. Mueller says the teen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lebanon Firefighters and medics responded to the scene to help with the process of extricating the victim from the damaged vehicle.

Mueller says Skylar Todd Schlim, of Lebanon was pronounced dead at the scene.

Keizer Police Announce Closures for Upcoming Iris Parade

(KEIZER) - The Keizer Police Department will close River Road on Saturday, May 20th for the 56th annual Iris Parade.

Beginning at 9:00 AM, River Road will be closed from Lockhaven Drive to Plymouth Drive. Traffic north of the street closure will be diverted to eastbound Lockhaven Drive. Traffic south of the street closure will be diverted to Cherry Avenue via Plymouth Drive.

Bicyclists Riding to Remind Motorists to be Wary

(CORVALLIS – AP) - Bicyclists will be riding this month in several Oregon towns to remind to drivers to look out for people pedaling.

They will join a nationwide movment called the Ride of Silence. It's scheduled May 17th.

During the ride, bicyclists will remain silent and go no faster than 12 miles per hour.

Chemeketa TRIO Students Partnering With Homeless and At-Risk Teens In Salem

(SALEM) - Chemeketa TRIO student mentors are partnering with homeless Salem youth to raise funds for HOME Youth and Resource Center summer activities.

A fundraiser sale is scheduled for Saturday, June 3rd, from 9:00 AM -3:00 PM at the HOME Youth and Resource Center, 625 Union Street NE, Salem, OR.

Proceeds from the sale will benefit summer activities for the homeless and at-risk youth.

Governor Pushes Training For Workforce, More Manufacturing Jobs

(EUGENE) - To increase the number of good jobs in Oregon, the state will pursue a strategy of developing a skilled and reliable workforce, while upgrading Oregon`s public education system and investing in job training to increase productivity and put Oregonians to work, Governor Ted Kulongoski told business and community leaders Monday.

`We must work to keep good jobs in Oregon,` the Governor said. `We can do so only if we innovate, only if we respond to changing markets, the changing needs of customers, and changing global conditions.`

Project Backpack- Enhancing Community Well-Being

Fundraising events take place May 21st in Salem, and May 28th, in Woodburn.

Man Approaches Kids Near Wright Elementary

Parents are being encouraged to talk with their children about "stranger danger."

(SALEM) - Parents and residents living in the Wright Elementary School area are being advised of an incident that occurred Thursday afternoon.

Wright Principal Randy Gordon says two students were riding their bikes back to the school, located at 4060 Lone Oak Rd S.E., at about 3:15 PM, when a man, at a distance, asked the boys if they would "like some chips".

State Highway Construction Update

(SALEM) - On Interstate-5 in the Salem area, watch for roadside construction work on I-5 around the clock with nighttime lane closures and detours at Kuebler Boulevard, and I-5 exit 253 to exit 249 in South Salem and local streets and roads. The speed limit is 50 mph between I-5 mile posts 251 and 255.

Marietta Street under I-5 is closed for bridge construction, with no through traffic between Kuebler Boulevard and Fairview Industrial Drive.

Four People Die in Crash Near Government Camp

Tragic crash claims four lives

(GOVERNMENT CAMP) - Four people died in a head-on crash on Highway 26 near Government Camp Sunday afternoon.

It happened at about 1:20 PM on Highway 26 near milepost 64, which is eight miles east of Government Camp.

Police say a black 1999 BMW operated by 22-year old Andrey Blashishin of Portland had been eastbound on Highway 26 when it crossed the centerline and struck a silver 2004 Dodge Intrepid operated by 55-year old Gary Dean Matlick of Bend, that had been traveling westbound.

On Sunday, the statewide average rose to $3.03.9, in Salem the average price is now $2.98.2.

In Eugene, the price is $3.08.2, in Portland-Vancouver the price is $2.99.6, Medford-Ashland jumped overnight to $3.07.7.
