Arrest Made in Keizer Shooting and Salem Transit Mall Stabbing

(SALEM) - Police in Keizer say they have arrested a 15-year old boy wanted in connection with a stabbing Tuesday on a Salem Cherriots bus and a shooting earlier in April in a Keizer neighborhood.

Shortly after 2:30 AM on Monday April 10th, officers from Keizer Police responded to 760 Chemawa Road NE on a report that the front window of the residence was just shot out, possibly by a 12-gauge shotgun blast.

BE AWARE! Kuebler Boulevard Exit Closed in Early May for Construct

(SALEM) - The southbound Interstate 5 off-ramp to Kuebler Boulevard, at Exit 252 in south Salem, will be closed for four days to widen the roadway beginning Monday, May 1st through Thursday, May 4th. Drivers should allow extra time to follow detour signs to reach Kuebler Boulevard from southbound I-5, or plan to use alternate local routes.

The work at the Kuebler Boulevard interchange is part of a larger construction project to widen I‑5 in south Salem between the N. Santiam Highway and Kuebler interchange, and to replace six bridges and repair one bridge in the area. Construction on I-5 and the seven bridges is scheduled to last until July 2008.

(PORTLAND AP) - In their first debate to be televised statewide, Republican gubernatorial candidates Jason Atkinson, Ron Saxton and Kevin Mannix largely agreed on immigration, taxes and almost every other policy issue.

All the candidates said Monday that immigration laws - though largely a federal matter - should be better enforced and illegal immigrants should not get state benefits.

Health Officials Say Salem Meningococcal Case Not an Outbreak of The Disease

(SALEM) - Marion County Health officials say a 21-year-old has tested positive for meningococcal disease.

The man, came into Salem Hospital last week, complaining of a severe headache and nausea.

He was treated and released.

Once lab tests confirmed the man had meningococcal disease, he was brought back and treated with antibiotics, health officials said.

Students Teach-In Rally Demands Access to Treatment for Those Infested With HIV Globally

Willamette University students say they will rally to raise awareness and demand increased access to treatment for those who are infected with HIV internationally.

(SALEM) - Members of the Willamette University Student Global AIDS Campaign and the Salem community will raise awareness for the need to make HIV medications more readily available internationally.


Speakers include Willamette students, and Professor Joyce Millen (Co-author of Global AIDS: Myths and Facts) and Lowen Berman from the HIV Daycenter in Multnomah County.
