Motorcyclist Dies in Crash South of McMinnville

(McMinnville) - A Forest Grove man died Tuesday morning after his motorcycle was involved in a traffic crash with a vehicle turning left off of Lafayette Highway south of McMinnville.

Police say that at approximately 6:00 AM, a 1992 Ford van driven by 58-year old Nicholas E. Bartlette of Lebanon, was northbound on LaFayette Highway and began to make a left turn onto SE String Town Road directly in front of a
southbound 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

State Settles 2005 Civil Racketeering Lawsuit Agaist California

(SALEM) - Attorney General Hardy Myers Tuesday settled a 2005 civil racketeering lawsuit against two California companies for allegedly tricking 2,776 Oregon businesses, churches and synagogues into endorsing negotiable checks that the companies claimed were actually contracts for Internet `yellow page` listings.

Named in the stipulated general judgment filed today in Polk County Circuit Court are Yellow Pages, Inc. (YPI), doing business as www.YellowPagesInc.com, a Nevada corporation operating out of Anaheim, California; Electronic Directories Company, LLC, an Anaheim, California limited liability company; and their president John M. Wurth of Anaheim.

Average Gasoline Prices in Salem and Portland Hit All-Time Highs

(SALEM) - In the past week, Oregon's average regular gasoline price raced forward by almost 15-cents per gallon to $2.85, compared to a 13-cent increase in the national average, which now stands at $2.92. In the Salem and Portland metropolitan areas, motorists are paying new all-time high prices for a gallon of regular at $2.82.

The same is true in neighboring Vancouver, Washington. The average price exceeds $3 per gallon in Hawaii, California, New York, Connecticut and the District of Columbia.

Salem Man Lands Experimental Plane Safely After Losing Propeller.

Pilot is unhurt after successful propellor-free landing.

(SALEM) - A Salem man safely landed his experimental plane Monday night in a Linn County sheep pasture after his plane`s propeller fell off.

Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller says the plane, piloted by 33-year-old Jeffery Trembly was on final approach to the Albany Airport just before 6:00 PM, when the propeller came off of the plane at approximately 1000 feet.

Juvenile Stabbed on Salem Cherriots Bus

(SALEM) - Police in Salem say a 17-year old boy was stabbed Tuesday morning while on a Cherriots bus at the downtown Transit Mall.

Salem Police Department received a report about the stabbing at 8:15 AM.

After police got on scene, they learned that the stabbing victim had already been transported to the hospital in a private car.

Police were told the boy's wounds were not life threatening injuries.

Update: Salem Shooting Believed to be Self Defense

Salem Police say they have one man in custody and there are no additional suspects.

(SALEM) - Salem Police say a man was shot to death Monday night at approximately 9:35 PM. A local couple involved in the shooting, 26-year old Diana Carol Rennels and 38-year old Sean C. Dougherty, have been questioned and released.

It happened at apartment 'A' at the Lancaster Commons Apartments, located at 2375 block Coral Avenue NE, according to Salem Police Lt. Jim Anglemier.

"Patrol units arrived to find several subjects near the involved apartment. An adult male subject was found deceased inside."

(SALEM) - With gas prices in the Salem-area nearing three dollars a gallon, pawn shops in Salem and Keizer are seeing more and more business from people seeking a little extra cash to buy a tank of gas.

Pawn shop owners say business is increasing everyday, and most of the business is coming from families struggling to find $5, $10, $20, or $25 of extra cash to buy gas for their vehicles.

Experts Say Fire Safer Cigarettes Would Reduce Oregon Fires

(Salem) - Oregon fire officials say that on Friday, April 21st, a smoldering cigarette ignited nearby paper causing a fire
in a mobile home and hospitalizing an Ontario resident.

The unidentified woman was transported to the Oregon Burn Center in Portland, where she later died. According to Ontario Fire Chief Terry Mairs, who investigated the fire, the damage to the single family residence is estimated at $5,000.

The Oregon Fire Safety Coalition wants the public to be aware the technology exists to reduce cigarette-caused fires and could reduce fire deaths, injuries and property loss if it were in use in the state.

Benton County Health Officials Advise Precautionary Steps For Suspected Norovirus Outbreak

(CORVALLIS) - An outbreak of diarrhea and vomiting, suspected to be caused by Norovirus, was reported to the Benton County Health Department on Friday.

As of Monday morning, 13 cases were identified. Cases identified so far are connected with North Albany Community Church.

Samples were sent to the Oregon Public Health Laboratory on Monday, and results are expected by Thursday.

All people directly linked to the outbreak have been identified and contacted.
