Pets Rescued as Fire Damages Keizer Home

Fire investigators are still trying to learn who the current residents of the home were.

(KEIZER) - Firefighters rescued several animals Monday morning when a house fire broke out at 427 Dearborn Ave. N in Keizer. Before it was over, crews responding to the call had to fight the fire and rescue several dogs and hamsters from the burning residence.

Keizer Fire Spokesman Jim Trett says the fire was reported to 9-1-1 by a passerby who saw smoke coming from the windows of the single-family residence, `Keizer Fire received the call at 9:51 AM and the first unit arrived on the scene at 9:53 AM. Arriving units found a fire burning in the bathroom of the residence.`

Mr. & Miss Gervais Pageant Raises $13,825 For Worthy Cause

(GERVAIS) - Eight Gervais High School students put their best foot forward during the 2006 Mr. and Miss Gervais Pageant Saturday, March 11th. The pageant was
held at Gervais High School as a benefit for Kids Making Miracles for Doernbecher Children's Hospital.

The pageant contestants raised $13,825 over a three-month period.

State Looking to Return Unclaimed Money, Property

(SALEM AP) - The state of Oregon is looking to return 200 million dollars -- and some of it may be yours.

The money and property comes from a variety of sources. They include utility refunds, uncashed payroll checks, unclaimed tax refunds, estates with no known heirs and abandoned safe deposit boxes.

It is the responsibility of employers, businesses, estate trustees, landlords and banks to try and track down people who are owed money or who abandon safe deposit boxes. But if those efforts fail, the assets are sent to the state for safekeeping.

OSU Extension, Oregon Food Bank Launch Food Resource Web Site

(CORVALLIS) - Wherever you live in Oregon - be it in a larger city or smaller town - finding up-to-date information about local food resources will be a lot easier with the introduction of Food for Oregon, an online database just launched by the Oregon State University Extension Service in cooperation with Oregon Food Bank.

Food for Oregon fulfills a recommendation to develop a database to "provide information and to help coordinate community food security efforts across the state," that is part of the Oregon Hunger Relief Task Force's Act to End Hunger.

"The Food for Oregon database will include a broad range of locally available food outlets, including community gardens, farmers' markets, community kitchens and gleaning organizations, faith-based food providers, and other local food producers and processors," said Sally Bowman, OSU Extension family and community development specialist.

Salem Homes Spray-Painted With ELF Slogans

The group has taken responsibility for many acts of eco-sabotage throughout the United States.

(SALEM) - Salem Police are investigating vandalism at three homes under construction in southeast Salem that may or may NOT be the work of the ELF, or Earth Liberation Front.

Investigators say the three homes, located in the Creekside neighborhood, were

spray-painted Saturday night with slogans that read: "ELF", "Rent is theft", "Don`t kill my air", and "Quit building ant farms".
