2nd Alarm Fire Damages Home in Northeast Salem

(SALEM) - Fire scene march 12th 2006 Firefighters were called out to a house fire Sunday night just before 8:30 PM, at 4330 Snowberry St NE.

Salem Fire`s Joe Parrott says reports from witnesses at the scene indicated the garage was well involved in fire, so a second alarm was dispatched.

Oregon Child Support Program Now Offers Payments Through Debit Cards

The ReliaCard program is similar to the existing direct deposit program. However, ReliaCard allows participation by customers who do not have, or prefer not to use, a checking or savings account

(SALEM) - Oregon Attorney General Hardy Myers The Oregon Department of Justice, Division of Child Support has announced that the U.S. Bank ReliaCard , VISA debit card has been added as a third payment option available to child support customers throughout Oregon.

The decision follows a pilot program where users found the cards to be a safe and secure payment option.

ReliaCard is the result of a public-private partnership between U.S. Bank , the Oregon State Treasury and the Oregon Child Support Program.

Once enrolled, child support customers` receive their child support payment as an electronic deposit to their debit card accounts.

River debris, wear-and-tear have taken it’s toll on the boat launch area at Wallace Marine Park in West Salem

(SALEM) - The Willamette River in Salem, Oregon The City of Salem is seeking a grant from the Oregon State Marine Board and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for improvements to the boat launch area at Wallace Marine Park.

The floats are hit hard by floating debris during high water periods.

Teachers` Union Declines to Endorse Candidate in Primary

(PORTLAND) - Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski The Oregon Education Association has declined to make any endorsement during the run-up to Oregon's May 16th primary.

Six of the seven major candidates for governor addressed the powerful teachers' union members during their annual convention Saturday in Portland.

The lack of an endorsement is a blow to incumbent Governor Ted Kulongoski, a Democrat.

Animal Rights Protestors Face Abuse in Salem

(SALEM) - PETA Kentucky Fried Chicken protest Members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals protested in front of the Kentucky Fried Chicken on South Commercial in Salem Saturday with strong accusations about the way the chain does away with chickens eventually bound for their buckets.

Charges include live boiling and other things that, if true, are distasteful at minimum at first impression. `It`s all about saving money,` says Jory VanAntwerp of P.E.T.A.

Two People Die in Crash on Highway 22 West of Santiam Summit

Officers from Keizer and Woodburn responded to the scene near Detroit to assist in the investigation.

(DETROIT) - fatal crash investigation logo State troopers say two people died Thursday afternoon when their vehicle lost control on Highway 22 east of Detroit and was struck by a pickup towing another vehicle. The next of kin have not been notified and the victim's names are not being released yet by police.

Search Warrants Yield Drugs and Arrests in Albany

(ALBANY) - Linn County Sheriff's deputies say they seized dealer quantities of suspected methamphetamine, guns, cash, and drug paraphernalia during a raid on an Albany home Thursday.

Sheriff Tim Mueller says the Linn Drug Task Force assisted by a US Forest Service K-9 drug Dog served the search warrant at 1487 15th Ave. #B SE Albany.

Deputies arrested 28-year old Pablo Garcia-Lopez of Albany on charges of Delivery of a Controlled Substance, (Meth) Possession of Controlled Substance, (Meth) Unlawful Possession of Fictitious Identification, and there are additional charges, his pending Bail $22,000
