Short Barrel Shotgun Used in Shooting of Salem Woman

(SALEM) - Police officers were called to Salem Hospital Wednesday after a woman with a gunshot wound was brought to the Emergency Room by a friend.

Around 10:22 AM Wednesday, Salem Police patrol officers responded to the hospital, learning that a 25-year old female victim, who resides in Salem, had sustained a shotgun blast to her upper leg area. The victim, who's injuries were not life threatening, required surgery.

Salem detectives were told the shooting happened at 745 20th St SE in Salem. In talking with the victim, they found out the suspect, 26-year old Shane Edel Edwards of Salem, had fled the scene after the shooting, according to Salem Police Lt. Jim Anglemier. `It was learned that Edwards knew the victim and it appears Edwards was handling the shotgun when it discharged and wounded the victim.`

Tests Indicate That Victims of Capsizing had Meth in Their Systems

(TILLAMOOK - AP) - The three men who died when a crabbing boat capsized near the mouth of Tillamook Bay last month had methamphetamine in their bodies.

According to the state medical examiner's office, the captain of the boat, 32-year-old Craig Larsen, of Hammond, had toxic levels of the drug in his system.

PGE Prepares to Take Down Trojan Cooling Tower

(RAINIER AP) - Portland General Electric says it is nearly ready for the destruction of the 499-foot cooling tower at Trojan Nuclear Plant, scheduled for May 21st.

The hourglass-shaped structure is a Columbia River landmark north of Saint Helens and a reminder of Oregon's only nuclear power plant.

Fuel Truck Tanker Fire Shuts Down I-5 South of Roseburg

(ROSEBURG) - State troopers say a truck driver received minor injuries after the fuel truck he was driving struck a guardrail and caught fire on Interstate 5 about one mile south of Winston. The fire led to the closure of Interstate 5 in both directions until about 8:00 AM when one northbound lane was reopened. Southbound lanes remained closed for several hours.

Police Identify Occupants in Fatal Crash on Santiam Highway

(ALBANY) - Two Linn County men that died in a crash on Santiam Highway early Saturday morning have been identified as 20-year old Todd Boone of Albany and 20-year old Joshua Perkins of Lyons.

Albany Police responded to the scene at 1:22 AM Saturday in the 2100 block of SE Santiam Highway. The crash involved a 1999 Honda Civic and a 1999 Ford Expedition.

Narcotics Search Warrant Served in Albany

(ALBANY) - Detectives in Linn County say they seized approximately 2 ounces of methamphetamine, ½ ounce of marijuana, cocaine and $1,100 in cash from an Albany home Friday. The Linn Drug Task Force, assisted by a U.S. Forest Service Officer with a K-9 drug dog, executed the search warrant at 1515 SE Lafayette Street in Albany.

Arrested at the scene where the search warrant was served was 51-year old Michael Blevins, 35-year Laurie Pryor and 22-year old Rachel Holzem. All of the subjects were arrested and charged with Delivery of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine)

38 Oregonians End Lives Under Death With Dignity Act

The Death With Dignity Act became law at the request of Oregon voters.

(SALEM) - Thirty-eight Oregonians ended their lives under the Death with Dignity Act in 2005 compared to 37 who did so in the previous year, according to the eighth annual report released today by the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS).

"Once again, our report shows little change in the demographics and characteristics among those who are using this law," said Mel Kohn, M.D., state epidemiologist. "And again, these deaths reflect a very small portion of the average 31,000 annual deaths in Oregon."

North, South Salem High School Music Programs Receive Grammy Award

The Grammy Foundation pointed out that it is unprecedented to have two high schools from the same school district receive such national recognition especially in the same calendar year
