Former Salem-Keizer Special Education Teacher Expected to Plead Guilty to Sexual Abuse

(SALEM) - A former Crossler Middle School special education teacher accused of sexual abuse is expected to plead guilty Monday to sexually abusing one of his male students.

The Marion County D-A`s office says 42-year-old Alan Coorts will plead guilty to first-degree sex abuse, five counts of first-degree custodial interference, and one count of third-degree sex abuse.

Go Red For Women Event at Dallas Hospital to Teach About Heart Disease in Women

(DALLAS) - West Valley Hospital will hold its first "Go Red for Women" event, Thursday, March 16th, 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM, in the hospital's conference room at 525 SE Washington Street in Dallas. This event is free and open to the public and
no registration is required.

"The signs of heart attack are different for women and men," says Jon Pelkey, director of cardiac services at Salem Hospital and West Valley Hospital. "It's imperative that every woman learn the symptoms of a heart attack and learn how to prevent one from occurring.

Wheatland Ferry Will Resume Operations

Recent floods left too much gravel for the ferry to pass after water levels receded. The Wheatland Ferry has served residents here for over a decade.

(Wheatland) - The Wheatland Ferry will resume it's normal operating schedule Friday morning, March 10th, at 5:30 AM. The vessel has not been in operation due to increased gravel levels in the Willamette River.

When the Wheatland Ferry is not open, those who use the route to cross the river between Marion and Yamhill Counties have to drive a considerable distance around.

(SALEM) - The Oregon Department of Transportation is advising motorists to expect severe roadway conditions when traveling over the mountain passes through the end of the week.

The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for Central and Northern Oregon Cascades through 4:00 AM, Thursday.

Multiple Ambulances Respond to Bus Crash on Hwy 26

Students in the bus were headed for Western Oregon University to see a performance of West Side Story.

(MADRAS) - Four American Medical Response ambulances responded to the motor vehicle crash on Hwy 26 at Milepost 61 Wednesday. The crash included a school bus with a report of 30 students on board and three other vehicles.

AMR Clackamas County Paramedics first on scene found several patients requiring emergency medical treatment including at least one with critical injuries who went to the hospital by LifeFlight.

Salem Public Library Patrons Combine Fine Forgiveness With Community Service

Pay your late fees by helping a poor family have a good meal

(SALEM) - For one week only, Salem Public Library will forgive fines for patrons who bring in donations of non-perishable food items between Sunday, March 26th and Saturday, April 1st. Donated items benefit the annual Rotary Food Drive on behalf of Marion-Polk Food Share. For the third year, this effort coincides with Spring Break.

Food items will be accepted at the Central Library, West Salem Branch, and on the Bookmobile...

Light Snow Falls on Salem

(SALEM) - It didn't cause many problems, but snow did fall off and on in Salem and other parts of the mid-valley Wednesday night.

Residents need to brace for more strong winds, cold weather and the real possibility that the snow could dip down as low as the valley floor.

Anyone traveling to the coast should prepare for icy conditions, particularly in the Van Duzer Corridor.
