Familiar Faces Fill New Roles in the Senate Republican Office

(Salem) - Monday found familiar faces moving to new roles in the Senate Republican Office. Jonathan Thompson was named Legislative Director and Crystal Snell has been hired as Communications and Member Services Coordinator.

`These moves have made the finest staff in the Capitol even better,` stated Senate Republican Leader Ted Ferrioli (R-John Day). `The Senate Republican Caucus will be well served by both of these individuals.`

The Bush Administration's proposed budget cut of $1.1 Billion brings Oregon police the lowest funding levels in 10 years

(Salem) - Oregon`s top cop says the Bush Administration`s gutting of local police programs makes Oregon communities less safe. Oregon State Police Superintendent Ronald C. Ruecker joined more than 100 law enforcement officials from across the country on Capitol Hill Monday to urge Members of Congress to restore funding for critical law enforcement programs.

In February, the Bush/Cheney team released its proposed budget for the 2007 fiscal year, which cut more than $1.1 billion from core local law enforcement programs.

Salem Man in Critical Condition After Being Hit by Train

The city of Salem has a history with pedestrian vs. train incidents. During one recent summer, four individuals were struck on Salem train tracks in as many weeks.

(Salem) - A Salem man is listed in critical condition Tuesday morning at OHSU in Portland after being hit by a train Monday evening in Salem.

Salem Police say 26-year-old Joseph Dominick was struck by a southbound train at 16th Street and McGilchrist Street SE, after he tried to run across the tracks in front of the train.

Dominick was thrown into a nearby ditch, and suffered multiple internal injuries and a severe arm injury.

Dana Reeve, Who Led Christopher Reeve Foundation Honoring Husband, Dies of Cancer

(Short Hills, N.J. AP) - Dana Reeve, who fought for better treatments and possible cures for paralysis through a foundation named for her late actor-husband, has died. She was 44.

The Christopher Reeve Foundation says the wife of the actor of "Superman" fame died late Monday of lung cancer.

State Troopers Catch Reckless Driver Going Over 100 MPH For Second Time in Same Area

A 20-year old southeast Portland resident was stopped Monday morning for the second time during the last three months for driving recklessly and at speeds over 100 mph. The stop was in the same area on Interstate 205 where he was stopped and arrested in December 2005.

(Albany) - Linn County Sheriff`s Deputies and Albany Police Officers pursued two female subjects after one escaped from the Linn County Courthouse Monday, after having her release agreement revoked by the court.

Sheriff Tim Mueller says Beyer had appeared in Linn County Circuit Court for a pre-trial hearing for Possession of a Controlled Substance. Beyer had been out of custody up to that time when the judged revoked her release agreement and set a bail amount on her.

Salem Firefighters Rescue Injured Man From Ditch

(Salem) - Firefighters rescued a construction worker after the man took a serious fall Monday. It is reported that after losing his footing, the 37-year old man fell nine feet into a construction ditch at 1175 Leslie Street SE.

It happened just before 11:30 AM.

Suspects on The Run Rescued by Police

(Sweet Home) - Deputies and members of the Linn County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team located a lost woman in the Willamette National Forest near Upper Calapooia Road, east of Sweet Home late Saturday.
