Salem-Keizer Facilities Planning Committee Application Deadline Extended

(Salem) - The Salem-Keizer School District has extended the deadline for applications for the newly formed facilities planning committee. The School Board approved the formation of the new committee to look into long-term facility needs in Salem-Keizer.

The committee will look into the growth of the student population within the district and recommend strategies.

Saxton Wins Straw Poll, Mannix a Distant Third

(Seaside AP) - Portland lawyer Ron Saxton won the support of fellow Republicans Sunday at the annual Dorchester Conference after he told them he has the best chance to defeat Governor Kulongoski, the Democratic incumbent, in November.

State Senator Jason Atkinson, a 35-year-old Jacksonville Republican who's run a mostly grassroots, low-budget campaign, finished a surprising second in a straw poll taken at the conference.

Jack McGowan to be Honored as 2006 Portland First Citizen

An award first presented in 1928 to honor civic achievements and business leadership in the community is being bestowed upon Jack McGowan.

(Portland) - Jack McGowan, Executive Director of SOLV, is the recipient of the 2006 Portland First Citizen Award.

The Portland First Citizen Award was created by the Portland Realty Board (now PMAR) in 1928.

SOLV was established in 1969 by Governor Tom McCall and other community leaders. They saw the need for community action to address growing litter and vandalism problems in the state.

Plane Crashes on Willamette River Bar

Pilot and passenger both emerge from the wreckage uninjured

(St. Paul) - State police say two people were not injured Sunday morning when their small plane flipped onto its top while trying to land on a Willamette River gravel bar near San Salvadore County Park west of St. Paul.

Around 12:15 PM, Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Troopers Adam Turnbo and Todd Hoodenpyl were on boat patrol in the Willamette River when they came upon the scene of the non-injury plane crash on a gravel bar.

(Newport) - A minor earthquake rattled the central Oregon coast on Saturday, getting the attention of coastal residents as well as valley residents throughout much of Western Oregon.
