Blood Donations Needed in Oregon to Offset Shortages

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Oregon Blood Drive The American Red Cross encourages all eligible blood donors to make an appointment to donate blood soon to help prevent a shortage.

During the summer months, on average, about two fewer donors give blood at each Red Cross blood drive than what is needed to meet the needs of patients.

Salem Police K-9 Unit Receives Large Donation

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem Police Department On Tuesday, the Salem Police K-9 trust fund received a $20,000 donation from the estate of Shirley Allister.

The generous gift was presented to Chief Jerry Moore and members of the K-9 Unit by Daryl Vogel, Allister's son.

Salem Motel Manager Arrested for Promoting Prostitution

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Christopher Butler Salem Police Department Street Crimes Detectives have arrested a motel manager on prostitution and other charges.

Salem Police spokesman Lt. Steve Birr says 25-year-old Christopher Butler was arrested Monday night at the Phoenix Inn located at 4370 Commercial Street SE.

(BEND, Ore. ) - Facebook Study Girls and young women who post sexy or revealing photos on social media sites such as Facebook are viewed by their female peers as less physically and socially attractive and less competent to perform tasks, a new study from Oregon State University indicates.

“This is a clear indictment of sexy social media photos,” said researcher Elizabeth Daniels, an assistant professor of psychology who studies the effect of media on girls’ body image. Daniels’ findings are based on an experiment she conducted using a fictitious Facebook profile.

Trimmed Payrolls Leave Oregon Unemployment Rate Unchanged for June

In June, 28 percent of unemployed Oregonians were unemployed for six months or more, the smallest share since July 2009.

Construction dropped by 3,600 jobs on a seasonally adjusted basis, while the following cut more than 1,000: manufacturing, professional and business services, leisure and hospitality, and government.

U.S. Gas Prices Fall 4 Cents on Lower Oil Costs

Oregon still has the 5th highest gas prices in the U.S.

(WASHINGTON D.C.) - US Gas Prices The national average price for regular unleaded gasoline is now at $3.61 per gallon.

The price is four cents lower than one week ago and five cents less than one month ago. Drivers continue to pay higher prices in comparison to a year ago ($3.60), but the difference has narrowed to just a penny compared to 19 cents to begin July. Tuesday was the 18th consecutive day the national average has decreased.

(JERUSALEM) - Gaza Rocket Launch The Israeli military says it has resumed airstrikes on Gaza after Hamas militants violated a de-escalation brokered by Egypt.

Military spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner says that after holding its fire for six hours Israel has "resumed operational activities." The military says that during the six hours Gaza militants fired about 50 rockets all over Israel. No injuries were reported.

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Heaven Angel King The Lane County Sheriff's office is asking for public's help in their investigation into the death of a Sweet Home, Ore. woman on July 9.

The sheriff's office says 36-year-old Heaven “Angel” King was found dead by hikers on Forest road 2212, about 38 miles east of Cottage Grove.
