Survey Hopes to Find What Oregon Hunters Really Know About Lead Ammunition

The use of lead ammunition has become a national issue because of impacts to wildlife and human health concerns.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem-News.com The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and Oregon State University are collaborating on an effort to survey Oregon hunters about their use and knowledge of lead ammunition.

Oregon has approximately 250,000 hunters and the survey will include hunters from each geographic region of the state.

Expect to Pay More at The Pump This Summer in Oregon

Hawaii, California and Alaska remain the only states where regular unleaded is at or above $4 a gallon.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Retail gas prices often edge down during the month of June, but so far this year, prices are remaining elevated.

Oregon’s average remains at $3.90 a gallon which is just fractions of a penny less than Oregon’s year-to-date high of $3.907 a gallon set on June 8.

Salem Family Rescued After Raft Hits Debris on Santiam River

Police report that there are now safe channels to travel through in that part of the Santiam River safely.

(ALBANY, Ore. ) - A Salem family out enjoying the warm weekend weather was lucky that the Benton County Water Rescue team was already on the Santiam River helping another victim, when their raft hit some debris and capsized.

On Saturday, at about 2:00 p.m., Deputy Eric Konzelman, Deputy Jessica Jones, and Deputy Noah Lochner of the Benton County Sheriff's Office, were dispatched to the Santiam River, North of Jefferson Boat Ramp for the report of a stranded kayaker.

Report: Salem Area Workers Earn Less Than The National Average

Among the higher paying jobs in the Salem area were health educators and mental health counselors.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Workers in Salem area get paid about 8 percent less an hour than the national average according to a report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Workers in the Salem Metropolitan Statistical Area had an average (mean) hourly wage of $20.44 in May 2013, while nationwide average was $22.33, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Regional Commissioner Richard J. Holden.

Governor Says Tragic Day for All of Oregon

Police said that during a search of the school after the shooting they found a gun on another person, which they believed to be unrelated to the violence.
