Report: Oregon Teens Having a Hard Time Finding Work

Younger workers are less common, even in businesses that traditionally employ a lot of young workers, such as hotels and restaurants.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Oregon added tens of thousands of new jobs while recovering from the Great Recession, but recent job growth completely overlooked younger workers. There were fewer workers ages 14 to 21 in 2012 than in 2010.

A new report from the Oregon Employment Department Endangered: Youth in the Labor Force is an overview of the labor market situation faced by teens and young adults.

Antarctic Ice Sheet Unstable; Causing Rapid Sea Level Rise

Today, the annual calving of icebergs from Antarctic represents more than half of the annual loss of mass of the Antarctic Ice Sheet.

(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - A new study has found that the Antarctic Ice Sheet began melting about 5,000 years earlier than previously thought coming out of the last ice age – and that shrinkage of the vast ice sheet accelerated during eight distinct episodes, causing rapid sea level rise.

The international study, funded in part by the National Science Foundation, is particularly important coming on the heels of recent studies that suggest destabilization of part of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet has begun.

Armed Suspects Sought in Albany Medical Marijuana Robbery

Deputies believe the residence was targeted because it is a grow site for numerous medical marijuana patients.

(ALBANY, Ore. ) - Linn County Sheriff Bruce Riley reports his office received a report of a home invasion robbery at approximately 3:00 a.m. this morning.

During the investigation deputies learned that up to five suspects forced their way into two residences located on the same piece of residential property.

Woodburn Woman Injured in Head-On Crash

OSP troopers from the Portland Area Command office are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash.

(OREGON CITY, Ore. ) - Oregon State Police are continuing the investigation into Tuesday morning's serious injury traffic crash involving two vehicles on Highway 213 south of Oregon City.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., a 2003 Cadillac sport utility vehicle towing a trailer driven by 73-year-old Sharon Zimmerman, from Woodburn, was northbound on Highway 213 near S. Greentree Drive when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound Chevrolet pickup.

Authorities Continue Nationwide Search for Man Who Killed Oregon Weighmaster

Dirck Morgan White is considered armed and very dangerous to the public. If you see him, do not approach him, and contact 911.

(OREGON CITY, Ore. ) - On February 6, 2014, Clackamas County Weighmaster Grady Waxenfelter was executed while conducting a traffic stop on a commercial truck near Boring, Oregon.

Investigators later identified 41-year-old Dirck Morgan White as the suspect in this murder. White is also wanted for questioning in a child rape case. Investigators believe White may have thought Waxenfelter was a police officer.

BREAKING NEWS: Wrong Way Driver Causes Crash on Highway 22 West of Salem

All lanes are now open. Police have yet to release any new information on the accident.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Salem Police, along with the Oregon State Police, and Salem Fire and medical units are on the scene this morning of a serious injury accident involving what police say was a wrong way driver.

Salem Police tell Salem-News.com that Highway 22W eastbound near Rosemont Ave NW is CLOSED at this time, as there are multiple vehicles involved in the crash.

Fire Destroys Jefferson Shop

The cause of the fire was determined to be from the burning weeds that were not completely extinguished and spread under the edge of the building.

(JEFFERSON, Ore. ) - The Jefferson Fire District was dispatched to a structure fire at 12988 Meadowood Court S.E. Jefferson, Oregon Tuesday afternoon.

Upon arrival Incident Commander, Scott Shepherd stated that heavy black smoke was coming out of the roof and sides of the shop and flames were starting to show. There was another shop within a few feet of the structure that was being threatened by the fire.

Oregon Troops Headed for Afghanistan

Elements of the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team have served in Saudia Arabia, The Sinai, Kuwait, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - The Oregon Army National Guard's 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team is scheduled to mobilize three battalions to Afghanistan this summer as part of the regular rotational cycle of forces to provide security missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

A mobilization ceremony is scheduled for June 7 at the Salem Armory Auditorium, located at 2310 17th Street NE, in Salem, Ore. The ceremony begins at 2:00 p.m.
