Chairman Menendez Expresses Support for an International Investigation Into Sri Lankan War Crime Allegations

"We must be united in our message to the government of Sri Lanka: the international community will remain vigilant until we see concrete and credible accountability and genuine political reconciliation."

(WASHINGTON DC) - Chairman of the prestigious Foreign Relations committee, Robert Menendez Chairman of the prestigious Foreign Relations committee, Robert Menendez, wrote UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay to express his support for a resolution at the current session of the UN Human Rights Council that calls for an international investigation into Sri Lankan war crimes committed during that country’s civil war.

In the letter, Senator Menendez notes “that the Committee is concerned with the deteriorating environment for the democratic process and human rights in Sri Lanka.”

Deadline Approaching for Property Tax Deferral for Disabled, Senior Citizens

Deferral allows eligible seniors and people with disabilities to have the state pay property taxes on their behalf until they move, sell their home, or die.

(SALEM) - taxes Both current participants that need to recertify their eligibility this year and new applicants for the programs have until April 15 to file the necessary paperwork, according to program manager Bronson Rueda.

"Eligible Oregonians who want their property taxes paid in November must meet the April 15 filing deadline," Rueda said. "If we don't get their forms by April 15, we can't pay their property taxes this year."

Clackamas County SWAT Team Responds to Barricaded Wanted Man in Estacada

Mr. Stavenjord is believed to have left the area by an unknown means and the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office has no reason to believe he is an immediate threat to area citizens.

(ESTACADA, OR) - Brandon Stavenjord On March 19 at 1:30 pm the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office responded to an address on SE Tumala Mountain Rd. in rural Clackamas County in an attempt to arrest 41-year old Brandon Stavenjord who was wanted on a felony parole warrant.

When deputies arrived, they believed he was inside the residence, refusing to come out. Based on Mr. Stavenjords past criminal history and access to weapons the Clackamas County SWAT Team was called to the scene.

The University of Pittsburgh held a college honors program, March 4th, called Vietnam: New Lessons from an Old War, a Half Century On. The speakers were Senator Bob Kerrey, Vietnam Veteran and former governor of Nebraska, Peter Arnett, from New Zealand, he won a Pulitzer prize for his journalism during the war, Thomas Vallely, the former director of Harvard’s Vietnam Project and Vietnam Veteran.

Crash Results in the Death of an Adult Female

A witness reported seeing a vehicle drive Off the cliff. Emergency responders confirmed the vehicle contained a deceased adult female inside. The U.S. Coast Guard responded with a helicopter and boat resources to help as needed.

(DEPOE BAY) - Car went off cliff near Depoe Bay, OR 3-17-14 Oregon State Police (OSP), with the assistance of the Lincoln County Crash Team, is continuing the investigation at the scene of Wednesday morning's single vehicle fatal traffic crash that occurred off Highway 101 about three miles south of Depoe Bay in Lincoln County.

The crash resulted in the death of an adult female whose name will be released after next of kin notifications are completed.

Salem Puppy Sales Laws Should Remain Open

I personally have found excellent homes for several puppies on Salem city sidewalks legally and safely. I can assure you that these puppies were not abused or treated cruelly in any way.

(SALEM) - Puppy for sale I am writing concerning an article that I recently read in the Statesman Journal newspaper on March 10th concerning the sale of puppies on the public right of way.

The first thing that concerns me is that a dozen emails received by city councilman Chuck Bennett can affect the lives of thousands of Salem residents in such a negative way.

46-Year-Old Man Arrested for Inappropriately Touching Two Teen Girls

This investigation began on January 23, 2014, when a 14-year-old girl reported that a man sat next to her on a TriMet bus and made sexually explicit comments and inappropriately touched her, while the bus was in the area of North Woolsey Avenue and Trenton Street.

(PORTLAND) - 46-year-old Jason Raynard Tomlin On Tuesday March 18, 2014, North Precinct officers arrested 46-year-old Jason Raynard Tomlin in connection with two reports of a man inappropriately touching underage girls.

Tomlin was charged with two counts of Sex Abuse in the First Degree and was booked into the Multnomah County Jail.

High Dioxin Levels in Dong Nai Lakes

The contamination is believed to be caused by toxic chemicals used during the American War 1959-1975. According to experts, the level of dioxins at the airbase is higher than at airports in Da Nang and Phu Cat, two others dioxin contaminated hotspots.

Authorities have told local residents not to drink or use the water.

The highest concentrations of dioxins were found to be more than 8,000 parts per trillion (ppt), eight times higher than recommended levels.

Dayton Fire District Receives a Year Supply of Toilet Paper from Charmin

It is part of a nationwide donation to one fire house in every state – that’s nearly 50,000 rolls of toilet paper to 50 firehouses in 50 states.
