Could Khaled Masha'al Get Sacked?

Many have lost faith in the longtime leader of Hamas.

(OCCUPIED PALESTINE) - Palestinian sources in the Gaza Strip say members of the Islamic Resistance Movement in Palestine (Hamas) want to remove Khaled Masha'al as its politburo chief.

An inner-party schism between senior members follows the Hamas leadership's unsuccessful strategies concerning reconciliation talks with the Palestinian Authority.

Many believe that the resistance group has been misled by political officials who want to garner the support of wealthy Arab states of the Persian Gulf-- many have stirred strong disapproval among the majority of Hamas members who have firm belief in armed struggle against Israel.

Extrapolating from the recent events, it is likely that Hamas members will reach a consensus and possibly demote Mr. Masha'al which shall entail a wide-ranging shift in Hamas' regional policies particularly vis-à-vis Tehran and guarantee the latter's renewal of support.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army launched a suspicious military drill near the Gaza Strip amid increasing speculation and fear in recent days.

Observers believe that Israel's perennial threat against the Gaza and the sky-rocketing popularity and strength of other Palestinian factions —who remain loyal to the Palestinian cause, e.g. Islamic Jihad—cause Hamas leaders to maintain unity and forestall the political structure's imminent collapse.

To remedy the situation, one insider said, "...it is imperative that a certain controversial figure be unseated."
