Marion County Sheriff’s Office Holding Crop-A-Cop EventSalem-News.comSheriff’s office employees have volunteered their long hair, in honor of the daughter of one of their own, who is battling Leukemia.
(SALEM) - The Marion County Sheriff’s Office will be holding a Crop-A-Cop event to benefit Dornbecher Children’s Hospital on Thursday. Marion County Sheriff’s spokesman Kevin Rau says on May 11th, 2006, 7-year-old Madison “Maddie” Melgard, daughter of Marion County Sheriff’s Sergeant Chris Melgard and Laurie Phelps, was diagnosed with Leukemia. She has since been undergoing treatment for that disease at Dornbecher Children’s Hospital. Employees of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office will hold two Crop-A-Cop events on Thursday to raise money that will go directly to Dornbecher Hospital. To that end and to honor and show support to and for Maddie who is losing her hair as a result of the treatment she is receiving, several employees of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office have volunteered to have their head shaved during this event to raise funds. Invitations have been sent to other area law enforcement agencies as well. The event has been sanctioned by Dornbecher Children’s Hospital. The first event will begin at about noon on the front steps of the Marion County Courthouse at 100 High St NE. The second event will begin at about 2:30 PM on the Marion County Jail Campus at 4000 Aumsville Hwy SE. The public is invited to each of these events and is encouraged to contribute to this worthy cause. The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the Sheriff’s office are with Maddie and her family Rau said.
