Salem-News Report Referenced in Story About Spike in Muslim Killings in Burma

It is a dubious honor to have your agency referenced internationally over stories of widespread killing. report and Muslim death spike

(SALEM) - Our Boston Bureau Chief, Agron Belica, caught this video on YouTube and sent it to our newsroom today. It leaves me with mixed thoughts about what we do.

Ms. Erdoğan visits a Rohingya refugee woman.

There is no question that the media inevitably is a component in all of this unrest. Of course if more media in the U.S. followed the story and also issued reports, none of it would be taking place.

It is about a report we published referencing a visit from the wife of the Turkish Prime Minister to Burma where she saw pitiful cases from this outcast population continually being attacked by Rakhine Buddhist monks who operate with a mob mentality and have been burning village after village where the Rohingya Muslims have lived for generations.

This is the description accompanying the video that was published roughly five weeks ago as the number of dead even by conservative estimates was crossing 1000.

Buddhists Intensify Killing of Muslims after news of 'Turks visit to Burma'

Buddhists intensified killing of Muslims after news of Turks visit, There are claims that the massacre of the Muslim population in Myanmar increased directly after news of the visit by Ms. Erdoğan and Davutoğlu was released across the country, the Turkish Vatan daily reported on Friday.

American Salem News reported about a Myanmarese activist's letter which stated:

"After hearing about the visit of the Turkish delegation here [to Myanmar], Buddhists ravaged the houses of local Muslims and killed dozens of people. We have never seen such horrors. Even the most talented directors cannot shoot this kind of [horror] scenes."

With the massacres carried out in Myanmar over the past few weeks, a state of emergency was declared in nine regions and a night curfew was enforced from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. in certain parts of the country with a large population of Muslims.
