Salem-News.com Sports (June 30, 2006 01:41)Winter Hawks Select Defenseman from Germany in Second Round of Import Draft Salem-News.com SPORTS(PORTLAND) - The Portland Winter Hawks today selected 19-year-old defenseman Stefan Langwieder from Germany with the 85th selection in the second round of the Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.
The Hawks had an inside connection for Langwieder, who is projected to be a solid two-way defenseman who is willing and able to play a team game.
“I played with Stefan`s current coach when I was in Peoria,“ said Winter Hawks' assistant coach Brian Pellerin.

Salem-News.com Sports (June 29, 2006 11:44)Blazers Trade For Aldridge, Roy During NBA Draft Salem-News.com SPORTS(NEW YORK) - The Toronto Raptors selected Andrea Bargnani with the No. 1 pick Wednesday night in an unpredictable NBA draft that featured the Portland Trail Blazers wheeling and dealing trying to regain fan support for the troubled team.
LaMarcus Aldridge of Texas went second to the Chicago Bulls and his rights were later dealt to Portland for the rights to Tyrus Thomas the Blazers first round pick, and forward Viktor Khryapa.
The Blazers weren't done dealing. They acquired the rights to Randy Foye, taken seventh by the Boston Celtics, along with Raef LaFrentz, Dan Dickau and cash for Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff and a 2008 second-round pick. Read Full Article

(MOSCOW, Idaho) - Three college transfers have signed financial aid agreements to attend the University of Idaho and play soccer for the Vandals in the fall.
Four-year transfer Ali Buswell, Corban College, and junior-college transfers Tianna Meduri and Amanda Triller, Clackamas Community College, are former players from Showler`s club teams who will rejoin the Vandal coach.

Salem-News.com Sports (June 28, 2006 20:35)Lyle Moevao Joins Oregon State Football Program Salem-News.com(CORVALLIS) - Lyle Moevao (MOY-vow) of Torrance, Calif., has signed a financial aid agreement and is currently attending Oregon State University, head coach Mike Riley announced Wednesday.
The 6-0 220-pound quarterback from El Camino College enters the program with three years of playing eligibility remaining, plus a redshirt year available.
Moevao completed 167 of 267 pass attempts last season for 2,652 yards and 29 touchdowns. The second team All-Mission Conference selection and Junior College Honorable Mention All-American threw just nine interceptions.

Volcanoes starting pitcher Adam Cowart pitched six strong innings, and Volcanoes hitters erupted for three home runs as the Volcanoes beat visiting Boise 6-1 at Volcanoes Stadium before a crowd of 2,646.
The 6`2" Cowart, with his a side-arm pitching style, kept Hawks batters guessing and frustrated all night long.

Salem-News.com Sports (June 26, 2006 23:34)Big Ten Reaches Landmark Deals for Television Coverage Salem-News.com SPORTS(LOS ANGELES) - The Big Ten Conference secured two new agreements last week that will redefine future television coverage for their 11 member institutions.
On the same day the league reached a new 10-year rights contract with ABC/ESPN that will allow the networks to broadcast up to 41 football games a year, the conference announced it will partner with Fox Cable Networks to create a Big Ten Channel that plans to showcase conference programming 24 hours a day year-round.
The new channel, scheduled to launch in August 2007, will air a minimum of 35 football games a year, at least two games of each team, in addition to hundreds of other Big Ten athletic events. Read Full Article

Salem-News.com Sports (June 26, 2006 17:59)Beavers Rally From Five Down to Force Deciding Game of Series Salem-News.com(OMAHA, Neb.) - Bill Rowe`s three-run homer capped Oregon State`s seven-run fourth inning as the Beavers rallied from a five-run deficit and went on to beat North Carolina 11-7 in the College World Series championship series Sunday night at Rosenblatt Stadium.
Closer Kevin Gunderson pitched the final 5 1/3 innings for OSU (49-16 overall) as it evened the best-of-three series at a win apiece and forces a decisive game with the Tar Heels (54-14) on Monday at 4:00 PM PDT.
On Sunday night, Oregon State trailed 5-0 in the middle of the fourth inning and North Carolina had already chased two Beaver pitchers from the game with a run in the second inning, three in the third and one in the fourth.

OSU (48-16 overall) now has to beat North Carolina (54-13) Sunday at 4 p.m. PDT to force a deciding game in the series that would be played Monday.
Sunday`s game can be seen on ESPN2; all of the Beavers` games in the CWS can be heard on KEJO-AM (1240) in the Corvallis area, KUIK-AM (1360) in the Portland area, KKNX-AM (840) in the Eugene area, KRNR-AM (1490) in the Roseburg area, KMED-AM (1440) in the Medford area, KICE-AM (940) in the Bend area and KNPT-AM (1310) in the Newport area.
