Historically the Pacific Northwest of North America has been one of those spots in the world where food is usually always abundant. The sea along its coast has always been a good provider, and the most important gift that that sea has offered up is the Pacific salmon that once filled its rivers and streams from far west of Alaska to Central California. That is changing. This year the return of Sockeye to the Fraser River collapsed and finally the Canadian government is ordering judicial inquiry into why this happened.
Have you ever looked back on your life and thought how much different, better perhaps, it would be today if you had done A instead of B, or B instead of A? Can humankind do the equivalent? We can’t redo, but we can undo. Before you can solve a problem, you must first understand it. When we look at the evolution of the human race, at the history of violence, warfare, and man's inhumanity to man, there seems to be no pattern or a single thing onto which we can place our focus.
The Department of Defense today released a statement by Togo West and retired Adm. Vern Clark, co-chairs of the DoD independent review related to Fort Hood. "In light of the shooting at Fort Hood, Secretary Gates has asked us to lead a department-wide review to ensure the safety and health of DOD employees and their families."
Even if analysts existed who understood Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and the other countries of this region, their history, their people and why war and threat of war is a way of life, even if America's "decision makers" knew how ill conceived our policies are, how self defeating and how hopeless, we would make the same mistakes. We have willed ourselves this fate.
Several weeks ago, I had a "personal experience" with a young teen being diagnosed with H1N1 aka "swine flu" by his pediatrician. The antibiotic Tamiflu was prescribed for treatment of the H1N1 flu. This writing is to alert parents to educate themselves about Tamiflu in the treatment of the H1N1 flu -- especially as it relates to children and make a competent decision with your pediatrician before filling that prescription -- weighing out what is safe for your child or loved one.
I’m quite strongly inclined to the view that the answer is “No”, but the question is still worth asking. It was triggered in my mind by a phrase in the introduction to the lead story of the BBC’s World Service (Radio) news bulletins late on 17 November and early the following morning. The story was the Obama’s administration’s “dismay” at Israel’s decision to approve 900 new homes in occupied Arab East Jerusalem “in defiance of world opinion”.
A U.S. Airways jet has gone down in the Hudson River off New York City. More than 150 people are reported to be aboard the aircraft which amazingly, did not break up or catch fire during the crash into the water. At this time, the plane is mostly above water and barges and rescue vessels are pulled up alongside to remove the passengers. New York has been the scene of bitter cold winter weather and rescue experts say that is making the job of reaching the aircraft and retrieving the people more difficult.
For one Vietnam Veteran in Illinois, a substance many call dangerous, medical marijuana, meant life. When Lynn Morse used it he could function and cope, when he abandoned marijuana in order to "comply" with the VA and go on prescription drugs, he died. His partner of 30 years, a pilot named Susan Tackitt from Marion Illinois is also a VA volunteer, and she has a few things to say about medical marijuana.
For over 30 years, Jack Herer has been the inexhaustible guru of the hemp movement. Many people have expressed their deep concern for Jack's well-being since his heart attack in mid-September, at an Oregon hemp festival. Sunday night, Jack Herer was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Eugene from the rehabilitation center where he has been receiving care. His breathing became more distressed throughout the afternoon, and finally he was rushed to the Emergency Room.

The War on Terror Does Not Exist.
The “War on Terror” does not exist. It never has. We only perceive the West’s current conflict, against Islamic Fundamentalism, as a “war on terror” because it has been framed as such. Let us start with the terminology. The very concept of a “war on terror” is nonsensical and self-contradictory. War, itself, is terrorism.
