Search Underway on Oregon Coast for Two Missing Campers

(TILLAMOOK, Ore. ) - Missing Campers Oregon Tillamook County Search and Rescue teams will be out looking for two male campers who failed to return to their campsite early Tuesday morning.

The Tillamook County Sheriff's Office says the two men, ages 35 and 53, left their campsite around 11:30 a.m. from the Cedar Creek Campgrounds off Oregon Highway 6.

Surfers ingest 10 times more ocean water than swimmers, about 170 milliliters a day, or half a can of soda, researchers said.

(NEWPORT, Ore. ) - Oregon Surfers Health warnings issued by state officials when beaches have high levels of bacteria do not keep many surfers out of the water, according to a new study by Oregon State University.

Nearly three in 10 surfers admit they knowingly surf during health advisories – nearly the same amount that chooses not to surf during periods of elevated bacteria.

Coast Guard Rescues Stranded Kayaker on Oregon Coast

“He set himself up for success by having all of the right safety gear,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Andrew Burgard.

(CAPE FALCON, Ore. ) - Oregon Coast Rescue A Coast Guard aircrew from Air Station Astoria, Oregon, hoisted a kayaker who was stranded on the rocks near Cape Falcon, Oregon, Saturday afternoon.

The man was safely hoisted and transported in good condition to Coast Guard Station Tillamook Bay in Garibaldi, Oregon.

Teens Trapped by High Tide Rescued

“Hikers who get stranded by the incoming tide is all to common an occurrence,” said Mark Dobney, command duty officer at Sector Columbia River.

(CANNON BEACH, Ore. ) - MH 60 Jayhawk helicopter The Coast Guard assisted in the rescue of two teenagers stranded near Cannon Beach Sunday.

An aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, based out of Warrenton, Oregon, hoisted the two teenagers aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter where aircrew members treated them for hypothermia.

Health Advisory Issued for Devils Lake on Oregon Coast

Swallowing or inhaling water, as well as skin contact with water, should be avoided. Drinking water directly from Devils Lake is especially dangerous.

(LINCOLN CITY, Ore. ) - Devils Lake A health advisory was issued Friday due to high levels of blue-green algae and toxins in Devils Lake, located just south of Lincoln City in Lincoln County.

Water monitoring has confirmed the presence of high levels of cyanotoxins produced by blue-green algae. These dangerous cyanotoxin concentrations in the water can be harmful to humans and animals.

Four Public Hearings to be Held on Oregon Beach Smoking Ban

Education about the new rule is taking place through 2014, and enforcement will begin in 2015.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Oregon Coast Proposed rules that would restrict smoking of tobacco products on the ocean shore recreation area will be open for public comment through August 29.

Citing environmental issues as a primary concern - plastic cigarette butts can persist for years, even in the harsh beach environment - the commission approved a staff request to consider a smoking rule for the ocean shore.

That is because, this year there has been an unusually large run of the Northern Anchovy from the Pacific Ocean, which has caused oxygen levels in the Necanicum River to deplete enough to kill the fish.
