East Bound Lanes of Hwy 22W Near Rosemont Exit in Salem Closed Due to Vehicle-Pedestrian Collision

The eastbound lanes of Hwy 22W were re-opened at 11:15 p.m.

(SALEM) - Traffic during pedestrian crash in Salem, Oregon At 8;41 P.M., officers of the Salem Police Department responded to Hwy 22W near the Rosemont Exit on a report of a male running in traffic attempting to get struck by passing motorists.

Lieutenant Keith A. Blair with the Salem Police Department's Patrol Division, says additional reports indicated that citizens were attempting to subdue the male to prevent him from continuing his actions.

Willamette Offers Free Humanities Class for Salem Adults

The registration deadline is April 30.

(SALEM) - Willamette University Salem-area residents have an opportunity to discuss Greek tragedies, philosophy, modern poetry and plays through a free humanities course taught at Willamette University from May to August.

The class, Humanity in Perspective, will take place Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

(SALEM) - foreign exchange students ASSE International Student Exchange Programs (ASSE) is seeking local host families for international high school boys and girls.

These students are 15 to 18 years of age, and are coming to this area for the upcoming high school year or semester. These personable and academically selected exchange students are conversant in English, bright, curious and anxious to learn about this country through living as part of a family, attending high school and sharing their own culture and language with their newly adopted host family.

Veteran Salem-News.com Writer Henry Clay Ruark Passes Away in Seaside

At 94, 'Hank' Ruark was America's oldest working journalist.

(SEASIDE, OR) - Hank's photo, taken in December 2009 in front of his son Loren's live truck in Eugene, Oregon, offers a hint of this reporter's connection to a whole generation of younger Ruarks in news today. It is a sad day in our newsroom today, as we regretfully announce the passing of our longtime writer, Henry Clay Ruark. He passed away early this morning in his sleep at the age of 94.

From our humble beginning in 2004, Henry, or 'Hank' as we often called him, has been a dedicated member of our team, Salem-News.com's Op-Ed Writer.

(SALEM) - Salem Library As a two-term library board member, I need to alert all citizens that our Salem Public Library is facing serious budget cuts and we need your help to reach a viable compromise. We're told that city officials will seek a 6-hour week for the W. Salem Library this year, way down from the present 31 hours.

If this happens, our main library can be next on the chopping-block.

(SALEM) - Salem flooding The city of Salem is no stranger to flooding, and residents particularly along the city's rivers, creeks and streams are taking precautionary measures to prevent damage from accumulated high waters.

All Salem Urban streams remain remain below their action levels. Willamette River reached action level overnight but all roads remain open.

Body Found in Salem Drainage Canal

There were no signs of obvious trauma but the cause of death will not be known until an autopsy is performed.

(SALEM) - Scene of recovery of body of Christopher Marshall, 26, of Monmouth Last night at approximately 5:39 p.m., Marion County Deputies received a call of a possible body spotted in a canal near an apartment complex in Northeast Salem.

Fire personnel were first to arrive at the scene in the 3900 block of Rockwood Park Drive NE. They found the body of a deceased male floating in a small canal.
