The Vibrant Colors of Oregon`s Autumn Leaves (VIDEO)

A visual inspection of some of this Northwest state's most vibrant fall colors.
(MCMINNVILLE, Ore.) -
Oregon's trees and landscapes have been blazing to life this week as fall brings the state some of the most vivid and memorable reds and oranges. Each year's weather impacts the outcome of these colors, and 2008 was a banner year for mother nature.
The video shots in this photo essay were recorded in historic Dayton, Oregon and nearby McMinnville. Each community celebrates the arrival of the fall colors and few miss the dazzling array of what is almost a chorus of changing tones.
Oregon's Willamette Valley is packed with these gardens of change and Salem, Portland and Eugene joins the list of cities and communities that boast some of the most colorful tones and arrangements.

Plane Crashes on Willamette River Island South of Dayton

Oregon State Police say the man walked away from the crash uninjured, now he needs to figure out a way to get it off the island.
(DAYTON, Ore.) -
Police say a 46-year old man was not injured Thursday afternoon when he attempted to land his small airplane on a Willamette River island and crashed about 7 miles south of Dayton. The man's name and photographs will be released later this evening.
OSP Lt. Gregg Hastings says that around 1:30 PM Thursday afternoon, the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office and Oregon State Police received a report of a plane crash at the above location.
Bryan G. Lee - Fire Chief with the St. Paul Fire District, says that at the time of the crash, an eye witness notice a small 1950's piper aircraft make what looked to be an emergency landing on a gravel bar in the middle of the Willamette river.

Police Say Illegal Pass Caused Death of Motorcyclist

Crash happened on Highway 221 near Hopewell Road, north of Salem.
(DAYTON, Ore.) -
Police say one person was killed and another seriously injured in a three-vehicle fatal traffic crash Tuesday evening on Highway 221 north of Salem. Troopers are still seeking contact with two occupants of a third vehicle who reportedly walked away from the scene before they could be identified.
Oregon State Police Sergeant Dale Young says that at approximately 7:07 PM, a green 1997 Ford Escort four-door driven by 50-year old September Marie Hawks of southeast Salem, was northbound on Highway 221 near milepost 12 when it attempted to pass a vehicle in a no passing zone.

Fatal Crash Sunday Near Dundee Leads to Arrest of Driver

Driver arrested over fatal traffic crash last weekend on Highway 99W south of Newberg.
(DUNDEE, Ore.) -
Police arrested the driver of a car involved in Sunday afternoon's fatal traffic crash that resulted in the death of a Dayton woman.
Carma Smith died when a vehicle driven by 26-year old Leonel Zurita Loeza crossed the center grass median on Highway 99W near Dundee, flew into the air and struck her car. Troopers arrested the man upon his release Monday afternoon from a Portland-area hospital.

Fatal Crash Kills One Near Dundee on Highway 99W

Motorists should avoid the area or expect delays. Highway 18 is open and has not been affected.
(DUNDEE, Ore.) -
Oregon State Police are on the scene of a fatal traffic crash on Highway 99W near milepost 27. The area is about two miles north of Highway 18.
They advise that the highway is closed as a result of the crash. At this time the Oregon Department of Transportation is on the scene with a detour in place.

Two Stabbed in Bar Fight, Dayton Man Arrested

Both victims underwent surgery and were admitted to the hospital.
(DAYTON, Ore.) -
Two Yamhill County men are hospitalized following a fight at the Ferry Street Landing Tavern in Dayton where they are alleged to have been stabbed by a third man who was arrested later last night. Yamhill County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to the fight at 400 Ferry Street Wednesday evening at 9:36 PM.
The two victims, 52-year old Yasar Uzun of Newberg, and 45-year old Robert Danielson of McMinnville were transported via ambulance to the Willamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville.

Driver in September Crash Dies from Injuries

Oregon State Police troopers from the McMinnville Area Command are continuing the investigation with the assistance of an OSP collision re-constructionist.
(SALEM, Ore.) -
The driver of a van that collided with the back of a farm tractor September 20th on Highway 221 near Dayton reportedly died Sunday from her injuries. The farm tractor's operator received non-life threatening injuries at the time.
Police say 60-year old Frances Dunlap of Dayton, was driving a 2005 Ford van on Highway 221 near milepost 3.5, when the vehicle struck the rear of a northbound John Deere farm tractor.

Dewey Sullivan Has Left The Field

Dewey Sullivan was one of the 10 winningest active coaches in the nation and among the top-20 All-Time
(DAYTON) -
To the dismay of Pirates everywhere, Dewey Sullivan, the winningest football coach in Oregon prep history, died at 4:30 Wednesday morning in McMinnville.
Dayton High School's coach for 42 years, 71-year old Sullivan was struggling to recover from a September surgery, and had been fighting a losing battle with pneumonia and infection ever since.
Finally, in typical Sullivan fashion, he called the play, and his family cooperated, removing him from life support on Sunday.
25 miles from Salem, Dayton has a long reputation of tenacity, strength and drive, of it's deep rooted spirit. Dewey Sullivan encompassed those same qualities, and Daytonians counted on that.

Identity of Deceased Man Found Near Dayton Remain a Mystery
(McMinnville) -
The remains of a man found in the Willamette River near Dayton February 18th, remain unidentified after a legal medical examination. A jogger found the remains of the unidentified adult Caucasian male around 3:00 last Saturday, in a log jamb in a portion of the Willamette River known as the Lambert Slough South of Dayton.
Investigators from the Sheriff`s Office responded to the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation at the river site. The body was taken to the State Medical Examiners Office in Portland for further examination.
