Opening Day for the BIG 2009 Oregon State Fair is Almost Here

Between August 28th and September 7th: the State Fairgrounds in Salem will become Oregon’s second largest city.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon State Fair Oregon’s biggest event of the year is getting set to open its gates at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 28th.

This year its guests – expected to exceed 380,000 in number – will experience a fair that’s BIGGER than ever, with new events and activities, plus all of the traditional favorites.

Salem, Oregon's Farmers Markets are in full swing, providing business opportunities for local agriculturists and great shopping for local residents and visitors. The event's Day Market Coordinator Tina Miller says there are many reasons the events are doing so well.

The market runs from April through October. the Saturday market runs from 9 to 3 every Saturday, and our Wednesday market runs from 10 to 2, and that's located between Liberty and High Streets.

Organizers Say This Year`s Oregon State Fair is BIGGER Than Ever

The 2009 Fair will be an 11-day birthday party as Oregon celebrates 150 years of statehood. With 185 acres of fairgrounds, an expected attendance of 385,000, and with over 9,000 things to do, see and taste, that’s a BIG party.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon State Fair June 4, 2009– Once again, the 2009 Oregon State Fair will be too BIG to miss! On the heels of last year’s Fair – which boasted an attendance of 365,000 people – and with a number of fun new events to celebrate Oregon’s 150th birthday, organizers are expecting a BIGGER turn-out in 2009.

“We can think of no better place to celebrate Oregon than the State Fair, which embodies everything that makes our state so great,” says Connie Bradley, Acting Fair Director.

One of the hottest concert line-ups in years is on stage this year at Oregon's State Fair.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - Willie Nelson The 2008 Oregon State Fair has released its concert line-up for the fair, from August 22nd to September 1st in Salem, Oregon.

Ranging from High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens to county music legend Willie Nelson, there is sure to be a summer concert for every member of the family at this year's fair, one of the premier Oregon events.

Tickets for all Oregon State Fair concerts will go on sale at 10:00 a.m. on June 14, 2008.

141st Annual Oregon State Fair Kicked Off Friday

The theme for this year’s Oregon State Fair is “Road Trip.”

(SALEM) - State Fair '06 poster The 2006 Oregon State Fair opens its gates to fun, food and excitement on Friday, Aug. 25th. The 141st annual event runs through Labor Day, Sept. 4th, and offers big-name concerts, FREE parking and family entertainment throughout its 11-day run.

Gates open everyday at 11:00 AM.

“We invite Oregonians from all over the state to come experience the state’s premiere family attraction.” said Dave Koellermeier, Oregon State Fair manager.

Veterans Admitted Free to the Oregon State Fair

A veteran voucher will get those who served through the gates two different days, and they base veteran status on the honor system.

(SALEM) - Marion County Fair Organizers of the 2006 Oregon State Fair have set aside two days to recognize the service and sacrifice of Oregon veterans. The designated ‘Veterans' Appreciation Days' are set for the first weekend of the Fair, Saturday, August 26th and Sunday, August 27th.

All veterans will be admitted free when they present a veteran voucher to the ticket office located at any Fair entrance gate.

Oregon County Fairs Taking Precautions Against Avian Flu (AUDIO)

Experts say precautions are necessary to ensure safety, one of the primary things is for people to wash hands after any contact with animals.

(SALEM) - Avian flu Oregon’s county fair season kicks-off this week, and state officials are taking precautions to protect animals and the public from Avian Influenza.

With Avian Flu affecting other parts of the world, and fears that it may soon spread to the U.S., the Oregon Department of Agricultures key safety concept for county fairs this summer is bio-security.

State Veterinarian Dr. Don Hansen says ODA will be asking exhibitors for permission to examine poultry.
