OSP Patrol Car Struck by Out-of-Control Pickup on Interstate 84

A second incident happened Saturday night in the Albany area when an OSP sergeant handling a traffic crash witnessed an out-of-control vehicle crash into the back of a tow truck.

(CASDADE LOCKS, Ore.) - Interstate 84 Crash 12-12-09 An OSP recruit trooper assisting at the scene of a motor vehicle crash near Cascade Locks was uninjured after his parked patrol car was struck by another vehicle.

Sergeant Pat Shortt with Oregon State Police says this was one of two incidents involving emergency responders and roadside assistance vehicles that are reminders of the need to slow down while traveling.

Crews Respond to Confined Space Rescue that Leaves One Man Dead

The manhole was located on a manmade dike that was part of a retaining water pond system on private forest land approximately 15 miles north west of Forest Grove.

(FOREST GROVE, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Fire officials say one person died and a second was successfully rescued today, after they became trapped in the confined space of an underground manhole on NW Timmerman Road west of Forest Grove.

Firefighters received a call about the situation today at 11:08 a.m. according to Dave Nemeyer with Forest Grove Fire & Rescue.

Drug Kingpin Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison

Large scale racketeering investigation targeted drug trafficking in Clackamas and Washington counties.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Behind bars Attorney General John Kroger today announced that the ringleader of a Clackamas County-based drug trafficking organization was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Vidal Carrillo-Carillo ran a criminal enterprise that sold seven pounds of heroin a week, enough to supply hundreds of addicts in the Portland area.

One Climber Located Deceased on Mount Hood

The search and rescue effort continues

(MT HOOD, Ore.) - Mount Hood Oregon The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office has formally announced that Search and Rescue (SAR) personnel have located one of the missing climbers on Mount Hood.

This person was located by SAR volunteers, deceased, at approximately 10:00 a.m. on the Reid Glacier, at about the 9,000' level of Mount Hood.

This deceased climber is identified as 26-year old Luke T. Gullberg of Demoines, Washington.

Holiday Shop with a Cop a in Salem Huge Success

Law Enforcement for Youth would like to thank everyone who contributed to this program.

(SALEM, Ore.) - lawenforcement for youth Law Enforcement for Youth is pleased to announce that the 2009 holiday Shop with a Cop was a huge success. This years program held from 9:00am to noon on Decemeber 12th at the South Salem Walmrt was able to serve 401 children.

107 law enforcement officials from numerous agencies including the Marion County Shiriff's Office, Salem Police Department, Keizer Police Department, Oregon State Police, Oregon Department of Corrections and more.

Rescue Operation Underway on Mt. Hood

At least 30 volunteers are present on the Mountain engaged in this search effort. The search has concentrated on or near the Reid Glacier – at around the 9,000 foot level – situated on the western face of Mount Hood.

(MT. HOOD, Ore.) - Mt. Hood viewed from the Gresham area. Clackamas County Sheriff's Office personnel and volunteers launched a Search and Rescue mission on Mount Hood Saturday, for three missing climbers.

Det. Jim Strovink, Sheriff's Office Spokesman, says Clackamas County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Coordinators were alerted late Friday evening by a friend of one of the three climbers, that the climbing party was overdue from their climb.

Police Warning Regarding Weather-related Crashes

ODOT and OSP urge travelers to know before you go and monitor your local weather forecasts and road conditions.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Photos of Oregon vehicles crashed in bad weather 12-12-09 Oregon State Police responded to well over 100 traffic crashes since midnight throughout Oregon with the busiest areas being southern Oregon and the lower Willamette Valley.

Police are asking drivers to slow down and stay alive. Maintaining lower speeds greatly increases your chance of staying alive if you do crash. Make sure people know where you are traveling. See Weather Emergencies in Oregon and SW Washington for more driving and traveling tips.

Obama in Oslo

Nonviolence is the strongest weapon we can wield to overcome evil.

(NEW YORK) - Obama in Oslo I was saddened by our President’s acceptance speech for the Nobel Peace Prize. He missed a chance to witness to courage and leadership. True, Mr. Obama was awarded the prize and did not seek it for himself.

However, even the Nobel Committee acknowledged that what they were rewarding was a change in direction, more than any concrete achievements for peace. Sadly, the Committee missed the irony of awarding the prize to a President who is waging two wars.

11:45 a.m. ODOT/Willamette Valley, No. Coast: OR 34 is no longer closed from mile post 0 to mile post 55. ODOT crews still report icy conditions on OR 34 between Waldport and Philomath.

11:15 a.m. ODOT/Willamette Valley, No. Coast: The northbound I-5 ramp at the OR34 interchange, near Corvallis, is no longer closed.
