Survivors of Afghan Quakes Await Relief

The death toll of 19 could rise, according to people on the ground in Afghanistan.

(MIR GADKHEL, Afghanistan) - Map of Afghan earthquake zone Survivors of two earthquakes in Afghanistan told Reuters they spent a freezing night in the rain outside the collapsed remains of their homes because promised government help did not reach them.

The two quakes - one measuring 5.5 and the other of 5.1 magnitude - rocked Nangarhar province, 90km east of Kabul, within a span of two hours early on Friday.

KINK FM`s Les Sarnoff Passes Away Friday After Losing Battle With Cancer

Les Sarnoff was 60. He served as KINK FM's morning host for 22 years, and over that time became an extremely familiar voice on the air in Portland.

Beaverton Man Dies in Car Crash That Injures Two Others

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Fatal MVA Portland,Oregon 4-18-09 Washington County Sheriff's deputies responded to a single vehicle crash on NW West Union Road west of NW 185th Avenue this morning at 2:34 a.m.

The initial investigation according to Sgt. Bob Ray with the Washington County Sheriff's Office, revealed that a 1989 Jeep Cherokee driven by 26 year-old Chad Saviers of Beaverton, crashed while it was Westbound on West Union Road.

Mom and Four Kids Injured in Single Vehicle

The family's dog, Kami, was also thrown from the vehicle and last seen running from the crash scene. She is a one year old border collie/rottweiler mix.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Crash investigation A single vehicle crash on Delaney Road SE in Marion County led to the injuries of a mom and three of her kids tonight at 7:25 p.m. according to Lt. Sheila Lorance with the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

She says the driver, 32-year old Shannan E. Hoagland of Salem, was Eastbound in a 1981 Jeep CJ5 on Delaney Road when her vehicle left the roadway, traveled down an embankment, flipped over and struck a tree.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - Eugene bank robbery suspect arrest in Eugene, Oregon 4-17-09 Oregon State Police troopers arrested a man wanted on a bank robbery warrant out of the Pocatello, Idaho area Friday afternoon south of Cottage Grove, Oregon following what they say was an attempt to elude on Interstate 5.

"The man's attempt to flee ended after police deployed spike strips followed by a tactical vehicle intervention technique to get the car stopped," OSP Spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings said.

Group Educates Oregonians About Medical Marijuana Program at State Capitol

There are over 30 bills in the Oregon legislature dealing with cannabis, most dealing with the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program (OMMP).

(SALEM, Ore.) - Medical marijuana event at Oregon Capitol 4-13-09 Mothers Against Misuse and Abuse (MAMA) held an event at the state capitol on Monday, April 13th.

The all-day presentation, "The Faces of the OMMP: We're the People in Your Neighborhood" featured a display of posters and educational material, and put faces on some of Oregon's patients who utilize cannabis as medicine.

As the year began, Israeli's were killing residents of Gaza on a 100 to 1 ratio in retribution for a few rockets fired by Hamas. Standing hand in hand with Israel, the U.S. will now bag out of the biggest anti-racism conference in the world because it criticizes Israel.

(DURBAN, Africa) - Salem-News.com The United States asserts that it will boycott the upcoming UN-led anti-racism conference citing the event's anti-Israeli draft document.

"The Obama administration will with regret boycott a UN conference on racism next week over objectionable language in the meeting's final document that could single out Israel for criticism and restrict free speech," the US State Department said in a statement on Saturday.

(GENEVA) - Anti-racism The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees today congratulated nations for agreeing on the text of a draft outcome to be adopted at next week's anti-racism gathering in Geneva, stressing that the process under way will help millions of people suffering from intolerance worldwide.

Navi Pillay said that the 16-page document, agreed on by the Preparatory Committee this afternoon, will have an “easy passage” through the Durban Review Conference because it was so “well-deliberated” by States.
