Hillsboro Police Detectives Arrest Murder Suspect

Police make an arrest in the Juanita Rosales-Garcia missing person case.

(HILLSBORO, Ore.) - 37-year old Delfino Hurtado-Navarette of Hillsboro Hillsboro Police Detectives arrested 37-year old Delfino Hurtado-Navarette of Hillsboro for the murder of his live-in girlfriend, 40-year old Juanita Rosales-Garcia, also of Hillsboro.

Police say it began as a missing person case on March 10, 2009 when Hurtado-Navarette reported Ms. Rosales-Garcia missing from their home in Hillsboro.

Sole Survivor of Cape Lookout B-17 Crash in WWII, Wilbur Perez, Dies

Wilbur's survival of the 1943 crash was against all odds. He was severely injured, but recovered and went on to have a very productive and happy life.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem-News.com A man whose life crossed paths briefly but significantly with Oregon history when his B-17 bomber crashed into Cape Lookout during World War Two, Wilbur "Buck" Perez, passed away Friday, March 20th, 2009 in Escondido, California.

I relate this news with genuine sadness. I was one of the very few Oregonians who had the great fortune of knowing Wilbur Perez, the sole survivor of a 200 mile-per-hour plane crash that claimed the lives of nine of his fellow crewmen when the plane crashed, lost in the fog, August 2nd, 1943.

The song for an Oregon woman serving a life sentence in a Turkish prison remained number one in 1974 for 9 weeks in the NW, and was number 16 on Billboard's national charts.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon scenery The summer of 1974 has this song as part of it's soundtrack if you are from the Pacific Northwest.

It was a haunting tale by a local band, in remembrance of a young woman from Oregon who was being held in a Turkish prison.

Amnesty International has called on the French authorities to take steps to reform the current system and create an independent police complaints commission.

(PARIS, France) - A memorial calling for justice for Abdelhakim Ajimi French police have been accused of committing gross human rights violations – often against ethnic minorities – for which they are seldom brought to justice, says a new Amnesty International report.

Allegations of unlawful killings, beatings, racial abuse and excessive use of force by France’s police officers are rarely investigated effectively.

Fatal Crash on Highway 18 Halts Traffic for Hours

Police Investigate Fatal Traffic Crash Highway 18 east of Highway 101

(LINCOLN CITY, Ore.) - Fatal crash near Lincoln City, Oregon 4-4-09 Oregon State Police and the Lincoln County interagency major crash team are continuing the investigation of Saturday afternoon's fatal traffic crash on Highway 18 east of Highway 101.

Troopers say a Langlois-area man died and five others received minor injuries in the crash. The highway re-opened 3 1/2 hours after it happened.

UN Urges North Korea`s Compliance with Security Council Resolutions

Ban regrets DPR Korea launch, calls for dialog.

(GENEVA) - Salem-News.com Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today expressed his regret that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has, against strong international appeals, proceeded with its planned launch, urging the resumption of diplomatic talks.

According to media reports, the East Asian nation launched a rocket this morning, and the Security Council will hold an emergency meeting tomorrow on the issue.

North Korea Launches Multi-Stage Rocket Over Japan

Japan did not follow through on a threat to shoot the rocket down.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Taepodong 2 Reports from Seoul indicate that a rocket was launched from North Korea, in spite of calls from world leaders to not do so.

The launch has not been confirmed at this time by Pyonyang. The LA Times reports that is was a multi-stage rocket that could possibly be used to deliver nuclear weapons.
