Study Links Autism to Parents With Mental Disorders

The information will help researchers look among related diseases, such as psychiatric disorders, for causes of autism.

(CHAPEL HILL, N.C.) - Autism image Parents of children with autism were roughly twice as likely to have been hospitalized for a mental disorder, such as schizophrenia, than parents of other children, according to an analysis of Swedish birth and hospital records by a University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill researcher and colleagues in the U.S. and Europe.

The study, “Parental psychiatric disorders associated with autism spectrum disorders in the offspring,” appears in the May 5 issue of the journal Pediatrics.

Portland VA Medical Center Will Participate in National Level Exercise

Hospitals will receive or simulate the actual reception of patients based on the individual hospital exercise requirements.

(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Portland, Oregon`s VA Medical Center The Portland VA Medical Center is participating in the National Level Exercise 2 – 08 (NLE2- 08) as the Federal Coordinating Center for the National Disaster Medical Center on Tuesday, May 6th.

The Portland exercise will be part of a multiple exercise event in various parts of the country that will not specifically affect the Portland area, but will impact the national level response.

62-Year Old Woman in Albany Located

Genny Chapman was missing, she was located Tuesday, April 6th, 2008.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - 62-year old Genny Chapman is missing in Albany, Oregon A 62-year-old woman who walked away from the Golden Wings Adult Foster Home in the 900 block of SW 21st Avenue Sunday, has been located.

Albany Police were concerned because Genny Chapman suffers from dementia, has a history of walking away from her home, and has traveling great distances in the past.

Oregon Guard Helicopter Crew Rescues Injured Logger

The UH-60 helicopter reached the victim quickly and had him delivered to Oregon Health and Sciences University at 11:40 AM.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Oregon Guard UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter An Oregon National Guard UH-60 Helicopter crew assisted in a rescue this morning, when a logger fell off a cliff in Polk County.

Oregon Guard Spokesman Major Mike Braibish says the incident happened about nine miles west of Black Rock and Mainline Road, which is about 45 miles outside of Salem, Oregon.

Attempted Murder Suspect Arrested in Albany

Gabriel Martinez faces charges of Attempted Homicide, Burglary in the First Degree, Assault in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Recklessly Endangering.

(ALBANY, Ore.) - Salem-News.com Albany Police officers responding to a report of a shooting Saturday night at 11:30 PM, found 27-year-old Abram Delano inside his apartment on SE 15th Avenue with multiple gunshot wounds. Abram Delano was transported to Samaritan Albany General Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

The investigation revealed that Abram Delano and the shooting suspect, identified as 29-year old Gabriel Martinez of Albany, knew one another.

Deadly Cyclone Batters Myanmar, UN Offers to Help

Thousands have reportedly been killed in the country formerly known as Burma, and the numbers in need of assistance are expected to be sizable.

(YANGON, Myanmar) - Map of  area in Burma The United Nations has offered its assistance to Myanmar authorities in responding to the deadly cyclone which struck the South-East Asian nation on Friday, leaving death and widespread devastation in its wake.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Cyclone Nargis made landfall in the Irrawaddy delta region, some 250 kilometers southwest of Yangon around 4:00 PM on May 2nd.

Safeway Bread Dough Spill Halts Freeway Traffic

The northbound lanes were blocked until about 10:58 PM when one lane was re-opened.

(EUGENE, Ore.) - Crash in I-5 in Oregon, 5-4-08 Police say a commercial truck driver was cited following an injury traffic crash Sunday night on Interstate 5 in the Eugene/Springfield area that spilled a load of Subway bread dough products and blocked the northbound lanes for approximately 3 hours.

Just after 8:00 PM, a 2001 Freightliner truck pulling a 48-foot trailer loaded with Subway bread dough drifted onto the northbound shoulder of Interstate 5 near milepost 193 and crashed into a bridge support post for Centennial Boulevard.

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - Salem-News.com It has been known for at least 2,000 years that Marijuana/Cannabis is a psychotropic, that is it effects the brain and central nervous system.

I had heard or read about California marijuana doctors reporting that it was effective for the treatment of ADD and autism. These were single or isolated reports because physicians seemed to be reluctant to even talk about what the U.S. government constantly bleats about a "dangerous addicting drug", marijuana.

PETA Blames Jockey, Hillary Clinton for Eight Belles Death (VIDEO)

Gabriel Saez was riding Eight Belles when she broke both front ankles.

(NORFOLK, Va. ) - Eight Belles PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk has fired off a letter to Senator Hillary Clinton condemning her for placing a bet in the Kentucky Derby and imploring her to publicly denounce horseracing.

PETA's plea comes just one day after the horse whom Clinton reportedly bet on, Eight Belles, broke both of her front ankles and was euthanized after being whipped across the finish line at the Kentucky Derby.
