Two People Die in Crash on Interstate 5 South of Roseburg

One woman who died in the crash was a U.S. Army soldier who was 8-months pregnant.

(ROSEBURG, Ore.) - Fatal crash near Roesburg, Oregon 5-4-08 Two women were killed, including one who was 8 months pregnant, and a man was critically injured early Sunday morning in a two vehicle head-on crash involving a wrong way driver in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 about 3 miles south of Roseburg, Oregon State Police said.

OSP Senior Trooper Mark Moore says early this morning, at approximately 3:17 AM, a two vehicle head-on crash was reported on Interstate 5 near milepost 118 in Douglas County.

Group Calls for Release or Fair Trials for All Remaining Guantánamo Detainees

Amnesty International says US treatment and conditions violate prohibition on torture and degrading treatment.

(GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba) - Image of Guantanamo Bay in the early days. As nine more detainees were freed from Guantánamo, Amnesty International on Friday reiterated their position; that the Guantánamo detentions are a travesty of justice.

They believe that the US must either bring 270 detainees still held there to fair trial or release. The nine men were the first to be released from the naval base this year.

Several People Injured in Head-on Crash Near Tumalo

Highway 20 was shut down for approximately 3 1/2 hours during the investigation.

(TUMALO, Ore.) - Photo of crash scene in Oregon, 5-3-08 courtesy: Oregon State Police Two Bend-area residents were seriously injured Friday evening in a two vehicle head-on crash involving several people on Highway 97 near Gerking Market Road west of Tumalo.

Friday around 6:00 PM a Toyota Camry was eastbound on Highway 20 when it drifted onto the shoulder and over-corrected colliding with an oncoming white 2000 GMC Sierra pick-up.

Retirement Home Residents Evacuated During Salem FIre

At one point Cherriots buses were called in to place some of the patients during the time it took firefighters to fight the fire.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Residents outside the facility while firefighters brought the fire under control.  Photo courtesy: Bill Holmstrom 88 elderly patients were evacuated from a retirement facility last night at 7:35 PM as Salem Fire Department crews arrived at 4050 12th Street SE, where an alarm was sounding at Redwood Heights Retirement.

Police Arrest Transient Male in Two Major Assaults

Two people described as transients were taken to Legacy Meridian Park Hospital by ambulance for treatment of their injuries.

(TUALATIN, Ore.) - Jesse Roger Giles is in custody for assaulting two other people described as transient from the Tualatin area.  Photo: Tualatin Police Tualatin Police responded to a report of an "assault occurring now" call last night at 6:15 PM at the Shell Station at 7090 SW Nyberg Road in Tualatin.

Capt. Brad King with Tualatin Police says that when the officers arrived, they contacted 19-year old Lori A. Wayment, a transient from Utah, who had a cuts and contusions on her back, head and arm.
