Unusual DUII Arrest Reported at OSP Newport Office

The state police contracted cleaning employee was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.

(NEWPORT, Ore.) - Oregon State Police car door Intoxicated drivers are arrested everyday on our highways, but one could not imagine what an Oregon State Police (OSP) recruit found at the Newport Area Command office Tuesday evening.

Yesterday at approximately 7:00 PM, OSP Recruit Trooper Ian McKay says he was at the Newport office completing a report when a private contractor's cleaning employee drove there with her 12-year old son to clean the OSP office.

Oregon Health Plan Applications Sent to 35 Counties

DHS expects to enroll 10,000 low-income adults during the next several months.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Kids on grass Across Oregon, 3,000 residents in 35 counties are receiving applications this week that will enable them to learn whether they are eligible for the Oregon Health Plan's Standard benefit package.

The Oregon Department of Human Services mailed the applications Monday to people whose names a computer randomly selected from a reservation list on which 91,000-plus Oregon residents signed up during January and February.

Police Attempt to Identify Body Found on Beach

Initial observations indicate the body may have been in the water for a long period.

(LINCOLN CITY, Ore.) - Oregon State Police are trying to positively identify the remains of an unidentified body found Tuesday afternoon washed up on the beach in Lincoln City. They say they are working with the Lincoln County Medical Examiner.

According to Lieutenant Kelly Collins, yesterday at approximately 1:50 PM a report was received of a body washed onto the beach near the Nordic Oceanfront Inn in the 2100 block NW Inlet Avenue in Lincoln City.

Oregon Surfer Airlifted off Cliff by Coast Guard Helicopter

The surfer was recovered successfully.

(SEASIDE, Ore.) - U.S. Coast Guard sailor and helicopter The Coast Guard says they airlifted a male surfer who was stranded on a cliff near Indian Beach, Oregon Monday evening.

The Coast Guard Group at Astoria say they received a call at 6:15 PM from Seaside Police Dispatch requesting helicopter support for a surfer who was stranded on a cliff.

UPDATE: American Airlines Says 9 PDX Flights Now Cancelled

As many as 1,000 flights nationwide could be cancelled today by the airline.

(PORTLAND, Ore. ) - american plane at gate American Airlines, who has cancelled some 850 flights nationwide today conduct additional inspections of its MD-80 fleet to ensure precise and complete compliance with the Federal Aviation Administration’s airworthiness directive related to the bundling of wires in the aircraft’s wheel wells, says now that three inbound flights to Portland International Airport in Portland, Ore. are now on-time.

However, as of 10:55 AM one inbound flight is on-time, while 9 others have now been cancelled. Two Thursday morning flights out of PDX are also listed as on-time.

Petraeus Says Troops Devoted to Iraq Mission Despite Strain

Current statistics indicate high re-enlistment rates among troops that have served multiple tours of duty in Iraq, Petraeus said.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - David H. Petraeus American troops fighting in Iraq understand the importance of their mission there despite strains caused by repeated deployments, the senior U.S. military officer in Iraq told Senate Foreign Relations Committee members yesterday.

“There is no question that these multiple tours have put enormous strain on the force, absolutely,” Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, commander of Multinational Force Iraq, told committee members.
