5 Salem Children Attacked by Dogs

(SALEM, Ore. ) - dog attack On Friday afternoon, Marion County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the area of Meadow Park Loop, near Fisher Road, regarding the report of 5 children who were bitten by dogs.

The children were on their way home from school when 2 dogs attacked and bit them on the legs. Two of the children, ages 9 and 10 were transported to Salem Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Number of American Soldier Deaths in Iraq Jumps in Recent Days

The combat related deaths of eight soldiers have been announced in the last two days.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Iraq casualties Reports of casualties in Iraq had seemed much lower in recent weeks, but that is definitely not the story this week for American forces serving there.

Today the Department of Defense announced the death of Staff Sgt. Laurent J. West who was 32-years old. He is from Raleigh, N.C. Sgt. West died March 11th near Kishkishkia, Iraq, of wounds suffered when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device.

Chinese Police Clash With Tibetan Protesters; 2 Dead

A Han Chinese resident of Lhasa said cars and shops had been torched, while another said the situation was "very messy.”

(KATHMANDU) - Tibetan protesters Chinese police fired on rioting Tibetan protesters in Lhasa on Friday, killing at least two people, as Tibetans torched cars and shops and anti-Chinese demonstrators surged through the streets of the regional capital, Radio Free Asia reports.

Witnesses who spoke to RFA’s Tibetan service reported seeing two bodies in the central Barkor area of Lhasa, while unconfirmed reports set the death toll higher.

Oregon, California Ocean Chinook Salmon Season Closed

A decision on any April seasons will be made at the Pacific Fishery Management Council meeting April 6-12.

(NEWPORT, Ore. ) - oregon fishing boat With northern California chinook salmon runs forecast to be at historic lows, the sport salmon season south of Cape Falcon scheduled for March 15 through April 30 has been closed.

“Chinook salmon forecasts for runs that contribute to ocean salmon fisheries off Oregon are estimated to be at very low levels,” said Eric Schindler, ocean salmon supervising biologist for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Any child needing lunch during Spring Break between the ages of 1 and 18 qualify -- Lunch is served from noon to 12:30 p.m.

(SALEM, Ore.) - kids eating at school When schools close for spring break, March 24-28, school lunch programs take a vacation too.

Some 7,000 lunches were served to area children in high-needs areas of Salem in 2007. This year, there will be sites in Salem, Keizer, Silverton, Scotts Mills, Mt. Angel, Aumsville, Hubbard, Woodburn, Dallas, Monmouth, Independence and Grand Ronde.
